Oscars Coverage 2012: Jacob Interviews….Film Enthusiast Lindsay Affleck

Film enthusiast Lindsay Affleck sat down to share her thoughts on who will big at this year's Academy Awards. Photo property of Lindsay Affleck.

The Oscars are three days away!  Host Billy Crystal will be back in action as the emcee of the evening but before the stars arrive and all eyes will be on the Kodak Theatre, jacobelyacharjournalist.com invited film enthusiast Lindsay Affleck to talk about the major nominees and the possible winners that might walk away with the famous golden statue on Sunday night.

Lindsay’s thoughts on which film will win Best Picture: I think The Artist is going to win this because it has won a majority of the precursor awards.   I love the film…I have gone and seen it four times, it’s a love letter to Hollywood and I think the Academy will enjoy that and I have no problem with that winning.

Lindsay’s thoughts on who will win Best Director: Michel [Hazanavicius from the Artist] is probably going to take this because the Best Director award lines up with the Best Picture award and I think that with this movie, he had a vision of making a black-and-white silent film and really follow through with it in a way that people are going and enjoying.   I think it will be cool to see him win as a first timer but I could also see the Academy giving it to [Martin] Scorsese and splitting the difference between the Artist receiving Best Picture while honoring Scorsese at the same time for Hugo but I think The Artist will win this round again with Michel.

On the Best Actor Category:  I think this one’s close because I think a lot of people would say it’s between George Clooney and Jean Dujardin.  Jean has won a lot of the precursor awards including BAFTA, SAG and the Golden Globe for the comedy side actor.  I could see him winning this but I think it is still really close but I could still see the Academy giving this to George Clooney as well.   I watched both of their performances and I thought George Clooney was the best part of The Descendants even though I did not really love that movie.  Jean did a great job being a silent actor and I want to see him win.

Meryl vs. Viola for Best Actress: It is a two-person race and I think it is really close.  I am leaning towards Viola [Davis] right now but I can still see Meryl Streep getting in there too.  I just think sometimes the Academy says that she [Meryl] is such a great actress but she has already won two but it has been over 30 years since her last win, so I can see them giving it to Viola.

Lindsay’s pick for Best Supporting Actor:  I think it is going to be Christopher Plummer because he ran off with the precursor awards and I think being a Hollywood veteran…it’s that kind of factor into that the Academy might want to honor him for this role.   The only person that could sneak in and take it is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’s Max von Sydow but Christopher Plummer has this in the bag.

The Best Supporting Actress Race:  Octavia [Spencer] has been picking up some precursor awards and she is probably the front-runner but I have been hearing a lot of background buzz for Melissa McCarthy in the case that Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain, who are both in the Help, might split the votes in that category.  But I could really see it being Octavia winning the Supporting Actress role and remaining in the lead as well so the Academy can honor The Help that way.
