There are so many reasons why I love living in Kansas City.
One item of significant importance is the rising film community that calls this city home. Among two of the leaders guiding this renaissance is Bradley J. Lincoln and his wife, Irene Delmonte. Together, they head one of the Kansas City metropolitan area’s rising film studios: Hidden District Studios.
They recently released their very first full-length feature film: Adira. The historical drama focused on a young woman named Adira (Andrea Fantauzzi), who is separated from her parents by the Nazis. For three years, Adira isolated herself in the German wilderness and developed necessary skills it needed to survive the horrors of Nazi Germany.
This debut film is an outstanding tale that will leave the audiences on the edge of their seats. Throughout the movie, audiences will identify the two strengths that can help transform Adira from a local hit to an internationally known film.
Actress Andrea Fantauzzi delivered one of the best performances I have seen in the 2010s. My eyes never left the screen when she was fighting for her survival in the German wilderness. In addition, she also delivered some of the film’s most heartbreaking moments including her farewell to her parents and the killing of the goat. I think that Andrea has a bright future in the film industry.
Secondly, when I went to the premiere…it was mentioned multiple times that Irene wrote this beautiful screenplay. I would give props to both the Lincolns for doing an impeccable job on the research of Nazi Germany, the Holocaust and taking on this monstrous project. Irene’s screenplay was flawless and Bradley’s editing brought the kind of cinematic quality that is normally associated with the big Box Office blockbusters.
Final thoughts & grade: Adira is a captivating World War II drama that successfully showed the darker side of Jews living in Nazi Germany. However, the film also produced a bright future for the Hidden District Studios team. I hope that we get to see more fantastic films from them in the future. A
