As the Hollywood and Highland Center cleans up from the 84th Academy Awards, jacobelyacharjournalist.com would like to congratulate each and every winner from last night’s ceremony.
In my last post, I correctly predicted that The Artist would pick up Best Picture; Best Director for Michel Hazanavicius and Jean Dujardin would receive his first Best Actor award for his role as George Valentin. Two other prediction that came true last night were Octavia Spencer and Christopher Plummer dominating the Best Supporting Acting categories.
However, the biggest surprise of night came from the Best Actress race where after 30 years of not receiving an Oscar, film legend Meryl Streep earned her third golden statue for her impeccable performance in The Iron Lady. She graciously took the stage to a long-overdue standing ovation and thanked all of her colleagues past and present.
Oscars 2012 marked the return as Billy Crystal as host of the event. For many members of Generation Y, it was the second time they have seen the beloved comedian host the Academy Awards. He worked his signature act from inserting himself into crucial scenes of the nominated films including The Descendants, the Help and Midnight in Paris (that featured a quick cameo from Justin Bieber).
Overall, it was an okay award show but there could have been a lot more great writing to the show and the flow should have been quicker but it was great to see Billy Crystal back as host.
