Blogger TeeJay Today will be facing my famous 5 Questions Challenge!
TeeJay Today has built his brand from the ground up while tackling a diverse group of topics that ranges from the celebrity world to showcasing his culinary point of view on his YouTube channel.
For this edition of 5 Questions, TeeJay Today talked about the biggest misconception fans have of his work and some of his favorite interviews.
Jacob Elyachar: How did you get interested in the entertainment industry?
TeeJay Today: I always wanted to be the center of attention; everyone on TV or radio had everyone’s attention. I want that!
JE: Two of your many jobs in the entertainment industry were both a Radio and TV host. What were some of the challenges that you faced with both of these mediums? How did you overcome them?
TJT: Easy, I bought the station! The hardest was the TV show, but when you say I’m the TV host here to interview ____ everyone kind of gets out of your way.
JE: What is the biggest misconception that viewers have about your work?
TJT: That it is fast and easy, some interviews take months of asking and jumping through red tape. Sometimes you show up for an interview and they change their mind on the spot, leaving you empty-handed.
JE: What have been some of your favorite interviews?
TJT: Being made fun of by Texas Governor Rick Perry was fun and seeing how nice Doctor Jane Goodall was in person was heart warming. She signed books and took pictures for 5 hours straight when I saw her…. Who does that?
All of my interviews have had something memorable in them. I remember showing up at a country music fest in San Angelo, Texas to interview Wade Bowen and Rich O’Toole. As we were filming the Rich O’Toole interview, his band stood behind the camera trying to get us to laugh, even mooning us. Seeing how down to Earth all of the musicians are is eye-opening, Megan Tubb and her band “Shady People” are just a few of the coolest people you will ever meet, we just hung out in their hotel room till it was time to go on stage.
Sometimes the interviewers came to me, The Rankin Twins and The Bellamy Brothers come to mind, both are pretty big names in the country music world, yet they made me feel like the big shot, bending over backwards to make sure I got everything I needed!
JE: Recently, you have converted your YouTube page into more of a lifestyle page. Why did you make that decision?
TJT: It kind of just happened. I think that moving around is a big part of it. I am hoping that people understand that there is more to TeeJay than just asking people questions. I still interview artists and musicians (Sam from Amsterdam is my next feature on www.TeeJayToday.com)
My fans on Instagram have been taking notice of my food pictures, so I started posting cooking shows on YouTube and I am now writing a cookbook. I recently traveled to Chicago to interview some musicians and see the city, part of that is up with more on the way. My philosophy is “Why say No?” So I always try to make it a point to figure out how I am able to do something, I might not get another chance!
