Theo Von (@TheoVon) is always making his fans laugh.
The rising comedy superstar is the host of the successful Yahoo! recap webseries: Primetime in No Time and has appeared on multiple shows and podcasts including the fourth season of Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham and The Comedy Sideshow podcast.
This spring, he will appear on Comedy Central’s The Half Hours and will make his film debut in the upcoming movie InAPPropriate Comedy later on this month.
In this edition of 5 Questions, Theo talked to me about how he got interested in comedy, some of his biggest accomplishments in his career and his thoughts on social media.
Jacob Elyachar: When did you first get interested in comedy?
Theo Von: When I was a child I guess. Comedy is an escape from reality and where I was from, the neighborhood, the background, you needed an escape sometimes and comedy was that.
JE: How long does it take to write your material?
TV: As long as it takes. My material is slow coming I think and I seem to learn more onstage to be honest. But, that is changing as I’m writing more now.
JE: What are some of the biggest accomplishments of your career?
TV: My half-hour Comedy Central special was a great goal I set for myself and achieved. My current job writing and hosting for Yahoo!’s Primetime in No Time has been a HUGE blessing and opportunity. My job challenges me daily to create content based on what the variety of television shows gives me. I love Yahoo! in general as well, so working with them is perfect.
JE: In addition to your stand-up work and appearances on television, you will be making your film debut in InAPPropriate Comedy. What drew you to participate in this movie?
TV: Vince Offer is a symbol of the American dream. I am a fan of him as a human being and as a creative entrepreneur. I auditioned twice for the film and got the role. It is a small part, but it kicks off the movie.
JE: How has social media played a role in your career?
TV: It is important. I mean it would be foolish to say it isn’t. The world IS social media.
