It is a pleasure to welcome girl group L2M to Jake’s Take!
In less than one year’s time, best friends McKenzie, Mariangeli, Tati, Jenna, and Lexi have gone from voicing characters in the film-Lego Friends: Girlz for Life to being recording artists signed to Warner Music Group.
The girls’ beliefs in loyalty, friendship, music, hard work and fun have attracted a strong fan base on social media, which includes 27,000 Instagram followers and 50,000 Facebook fans. L2M was also featured in numerous online publications such as Celebuzz, Just Jared, Jr. and M Magazine.
Also, the group created a massive YouTube series called L2M Pop Shop, which allowed their fans to follow them through every step of the creation process as they prepare for a big performance in Hollywood.
In this edition of A Conversation, the ladies revealed how their musical influences inspired them and shared details about their ground-breaking YouTube series.
Jacob Elyachar: It has been nearly one-and-a-half years since L2M was formed. How has the group grown as artists?
McKenzie: Our group has grown as artists because we have gotten to know each other a little bit more. It made us work harder to build the bond that we have shared. The preparation, practice, and all our rehearsals lead us to our first live performance. We had to step it up because we received a lot of different opportunities and we did not want to let anyone down.
Lexi: Because of all our rehearsals, our singing and dancing tremendously improved. We have worked hard, and I think that we have gotten a lot better as performers.
JE: Who are your musical influences? How did they make an impact on this group?
Mariangeli: My musical influence would be Ariana Grande. She is someone that I looked up to my whole life. Because of her, I strive to put out the best material possible like she does.
Lexi: The artist that I look up to is Cher Lloyd. She is my idol, and I think that her music is fantastic! Cher works hard on her songs and emotes a lot of emotion when she performs.
Jenna: Two artists that I look up to are Meghan Trainor and Tori Kelly. Both write about their quirkiness and their respective personalities.
Tati: I look up to Justin Bieber. He has taught me that even though people will do anything to bring you down, you can make a comeback and show people that you can make great music. I also speak for the entire group and state that Fifth Harmony has made an enormous impact on this group. They are five empowering girls who have inspired us to pursue our dreams.
McKenzie: My choices would probably be both Beyonce and Tori Kelly. Beyonce is an all-around amazing performer. She always puts on an amazing show. Recently, I saw her in concert, and it was cool to see how much hard work that she put into the whole production. As for Tori Kelly, I agree with what Jenna said, and I would like to add that her lyrics are inspirational and I also enjoy all the music that she puts out.
JE: Let’s talk about L2M Pop Shop! Could you describe to my readers about your YouTube series?
Lexi: L2M Pop Shop is about our trip to a Salt Lake City summer camp. The camp was super exciting because we got to prepare for our big show in Los Angeles and we take our fans on the journey.
Tati: Our summer camp was exclusively for us! We practiced every day to prepare for our performance. Our friendship grew stronger as we rehearsed together and we hoped that L2M Pop Shop inspired everyone to follow our journey.
Jenna: The L2M Pop Shop does not just focus on the camp; it takes the viewers to LA and follows us through our last-minute rehearsals and the questions that we answer when we have interviews with the press.
Mariangeli: It also gives viewers tips and guidelines on how they can do what we are doing and pursue their personal dreams.
McKenzie: All around, the L2M Pop Shop shows our fans who we are as artists. Plus, we have plenty of bloopers that shows off our fun and silly side. (The girls smile and laugh)
JE: In one of the group’s earlier L2M Pop Shop videos, you revealed the roles that you play in L2M. How have the roles helped the team persevere in the music industry?
McKenzie: All of us have different strengths, and we empower each other along the way. For example, Tati and Lexi are amazing dancers, and they could help the rest of us learn choreography.
JE: How has L2M Pop Shop distinguished the group from other acts in the music industry?
Tati: I have not seen any other group that has done a YouTube reality series. We are five girls that are taking on the world together. Our message for both our fans and viewers is that you can be yourself and achieve your dreams.
JE: If you had the chance to meet aspiring young musicians who want to work in the music industry, what advice would you share with them?
Mariangeli: Keep pursuing your dreams and believe in yourself. I believe that those are two of the most important things that will help you become successful.
Lexi: Always work super hard, but if you are not having fun, then you are not doing it right.
Jenna: Always have a good time, because it should never feel like work.
Tati: Be you! Do not let anyone bring you down and make sure that you love what you are doing.
McKenzie: Stay determined and focused! Also, just like the girls said: make sure that you are doing what you love and do not anything for someone, do it for yourself.
