For the second time in two months, Hollywood lost one of its greatest artists.
Multiple outlets including ABC News, E! Entertainment Network and NBC News have announced that comedian and TV personality Joan Rivers has died.
The Queen of “Can We Talk?” was born Joan Alexandra Molinsky on June 8, 1933 to Russian immigrants and spent most of her childhood in Brooklyn and upper class Westchester County, New York. While her parents (particularly her father) did not approve of her showbiz dreams, Joan pursued her passion that lead to a fateful appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
The King of Comedy loved her so much that the late TV legend often called upon Joan to guest host the show during the early 1980s. Ms. Rivers’ hosting broke barriers for women hosts (Could you imagine a world without Oprah, Ellen, Meredith, Kathie Lee, Kelly, etc.?)!
However, her relationship with her mentor was permanently severed when Joan signed her contract with FOX Network to host her own late night talk show: The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers. After abysmal ratings, not only did she lose the show, but she also had to cope with her beloved second husband, Edgar Rosenberg’s suicide.
Joan plowed through these dark times and traded the smoggy Los Angeles area for the Big Apple. After starring in Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound, she launched her daytime talk show: The Joan Rivers Show!
Once, the show ended, Ms. Rivers turned to cable television and created Live From the Red Carpet for E! In 2003, she left the network and joined the TV Guide Network to provide coverage for their Red Carpet events.
The Millennial Generation might know Joan Rivers the best from her time on two shows: The Celebrity Apprentice and Fashion Police. On the NBC hit, Joan’s bitter rivalry with poker champion Annie Duke brought in ratings and she proved herself worthy to iconic tycoon when she became the second Celebrity Apprentice.
After winning the title, she returned to E! as a part of Fashion Police. As a co-host, she shared the hosting responsibilities with Kelly Osbourne, George Kotsiopoulos and E! main stay Giuliana Rancic and either praised or destroyed celebrities for their outfits. In addition to her televised activities, Ms. Rivers wrote 12 books, hosted a web series called In Bed with Joan and traveled around the world to share her insights with countless of fans.
Unfortunately, Ms. Rivers passed away from complications from vocal cord surgery! Jake’s Take wants to extend its condolences to Melissa Rivers and her 13-year-old grandson, Cooper.
