It’s America’s Got Talent’s tenth anniversary season and this year’s talent is really jonesing to make it to Radio City Music Hall.
Thanks to the Golden Buzzer, acts that impress one of the judges (Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel) move directly to the Live Shows!
Already inspirational comedian Drew Lynch and superb dancing duo Freckled Sky earned their spots in the Live Shows by moving Howie and Howard respectfully.
With only two Golden Buzzers left, which acts impressed Mel B or Heidi the most that made them hit the Golden Buzzer? Read on to find out…
While the auditonees warmed up with their rendition of Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” the audience exploded as the judges made their respective entrances! As the judges took their seats and tested their buzzers, it was time for the first audition of the night! DJ Smart introduced his dance company, Freelusion, and turned off all of the lights. By combining dance with video technology, he was able to present a spectacular audition that brought Heidi Klum to her feet. Mel B called it “Perfection” and Howard called it a “beautiful audition.” They received the first unanimous “Yes” of the evening.
42-yrar-old ventriloquist Paul Zerdin came all the away from London to audition for America’s Got Talent. After cracking some microphone jokes, Paul introduced everyone to his friend, Sam. I loved his self-deprecating his act made me giddy like a schoolboy. Paul received the first four judge-standing ovation and received the second unanimous “Yes” of the evening!
One year ago, ballroom superstars Paddy and Nico took Britain’s Got Talent by storm and received a Golden Buzzer from Amanda Holden. Now, 96-year-old Tao Porchon Lynch and her dance instructor, Vard Margaryan, hoped to follow in their footsteps. Their routine to Pitbull’s “Fireball” was intriguing and their moves were superb! They also received a four-judge standing ovation. Howard was very inspired by Tao’s routine and Heidi called their act “unbelievable!” They also received four “Yeses” from the judges.
13-year-old Mariachi singer Alondra Santos was introduced to music by her grandmother when she was two-years-old and her family encouraged her to follow her dream and audition for AGT. Alondra’s powerful voice gave me goose bumps at her first note. Just like Sebastien De La Cruz three years ago, Alondra brought the crowd (and both Howie and Heidi) to their feet. Howie loved her voice and brought out the spirit of the Mariachi to AGT, while Heidi loved hearing her belting vocal. Meanwhile, Howard wanted to hear the sweetness in her voice and wanted her to bring it down in a notch during the next round. After receiving four “Yeses,” Nick accompanied Alondra’s family to the stage to give her a hug!
26-year-old Michael John hoped to follow in Mat Franco’s footsteps. The Los Angeles native asked Mel B to assist him on stage for his tricks. Using a deck of cards, he asked Mel B to bite on the “Ace of Hearts” card. After magically switching the cards and letting Mel B punch him in the chest, he revealed the initials of Scary Spice’s first kisser on his chest. Michael cried after he received his “Yeses” from the judges, he could be a force to be reckoned in the magic category.
The Los Angeles Children’s Orchestra brought all 50 of their members to perform for the AGT audience. From the word “Go,” the orchestra delivered a beautiful and haunting take on “Eleanor Rigby.” Unlike previous orchestras that appeared on past shows, these kids moved around on stage and did mini-stunts. As Mel B gave them a standing ovation and praised their timing, Howard commended them for learning the music of the Beatles. All of the kids were voted into the next round!
As the “Yeses” parade continued, one contestant hoped to share his love of pain with America. Leroy Patterson claimed that his stunt was very dangerous. The 32-year-old horror film editor ripped his shirt off and pored 5,000 thumbtacks onto the stage. He fell onto the floor multiple times and left the audience stunned. As Heidi buzzed her buzzer, Leroy bled and Howard was doing impression of his mom. Leroy’s performance divided the judges as Howard, Howie and Mel B sent him into the next round.
The last audition of the night belonged to 29-year-old singer Sharon Irving. The Chicago native was inspired by her grandfather (who marched with Dr. Martin Luther King) to follow her dreams and take the stage by storm. Sharon took the audience to church with a powerful rendition of Hozier’s “Take Me to Church.” She commanded the stage and left the audience with chills! Her wicked vocal skills impressed Scary Spice so much that she hit her…GOLDEN BUZZER! I hope that she goes all the way to the finale, because her gorgeous voice will take her to superstardom!
Next week, the Extreme acts take center stage!
