So far this season…16 acts have been saved through America’s votes!
Tonight was the last chance for the final group of quarter-finalists to impress both judges Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B and the AGT audience.
Who impressed the audience? Who got buzzed? Read on to find out….
The first act to face the Radio City Music Hall audience was the Virginia State University Gospel Choir. They tackled Madonna’s “Like A Prayer” and while the female soloist was okay, the male soloist lifted the group’s spirit to another level as they delivered an inspiring performance with superb harmonies and received a standing ovation from the audience. Howie stated that the choir healed him while Heidi added that the choir was so powerful. Hopefully, they will go through to the next round. A
Red Panda was originally supposed to be on the show this week. Unfortunately, due to personal issues, she dropped out. 10-year-old acrobatic contortionist and fifth generation circus performer Melody Caballerro took her spot. She had strong flexibility and a good routine but she did not charm me. While Howie stated that it was truly an amazing feet but it was the same routine, Howard defended Melody and said that she is entitled to do a similar routine every time. The only problem that I have with her is that there are already stronger acrobats in the Semi-Finals and they are better than Melanie. B
Singer Dave Fenley performed a cover of Ray LaMontagne’s “Trouble.” Unfortunately, it did not connect with viewers. I did not feel any emotion to the song and I disagreed with the judges’ comments. I rather listen to Tony Lucca’s cover than Dave’s piss-pour coverage. D
2Unique returned to the AGT stage with three-dozen dancers and they were outshined by their dancers and were lost on the Radio City Music Hall stage. They have a strong future but they need to polish their act. C
Daredevil Sam Johnson took the show outside of Radio City Music Hall to perform his act. He climbed on top of an 80-foot pole to perform a stunt that he did not perform in 10 years. The act…turning the pole into a pendulum and swinging up and down from it. The judges were terrified watching it but were divided with their opinions. Mel B thought it was like a bungee jump and Howard thought that Sam had more fun then they did. But Heidi loved watching it and it was nerve-wracking. On this decision, I side with the Project Runway hostess. A
One act that bored me to tears tonight was Duo Resonance. The duo’s routine did not move me and I wish that someone gave me an X. I rather see the KriStef Brothers than Duo Resonance in the Semi-Finals. F
D’Angelo and Amanda were the first ballroom couple to take the Radio City Music Hall by storm. They did a Paso Doble that featured fantastic chemistry and incredible footwork. At the end of the routine, all four judges gave them a standing ovation and Howie told them that they had intense athleticism. In addition, Heidi channeled her inner Carrie Ann Inaba as she gave them a 10! A+
Singer Selena Mykenzie Gordon was very pitchy when she sang Rascal Flatts’ “What Hurts the Most.” You could tell that she was nervous and the judges could tell as Heidi stated that Selena struggled with the song and Howard stated that she did not sing to the best of her ability. This is the fourth time this season that Radio City Music Hall swallowed contestants whole. C-
Veteran comedian John Wing delivered an outstanding routine that focused on raising his daughters. It was very dry but it made the audience and the judges laugh very hard. Mel B stated that John was “bloody funny” and Howie gave him a standing ovation and added that he was very professional. I hope John gets through to the Semi-Finals; it would be interested to see a comedian off between him and Taylor Williamson. A
Sprice is an incredible inventor but he lacked charisma. His contraption was interesting to say the least but was it worth a $1,000,000? I did not think so! D Meanwhile, Ruby and Jonas delivered an intriguing Jive that was great to watch and Jonas reminded me of a mini-version of Derek Hough. Mel stated it was way too cheesy but Heidi stated that she loved watching them perform. B+
The final act of the night belonged to shadow dancing troupe Catapult Entertainment. This routine was a celebration of life and dedicated to the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre victims. It was a beautiful routine and they stole the show. A+
Tomorrow night, Train & Tom Cotter provide the entertainment and four more acts will go into the Semi-Finals.
