America’s Got Talent (AGT): Season 16 is on a roll! We have seen impeccable acts take the Pasadena Civic Center stage by storm. Tonight, the third set of hopefuls tried to impress judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel. Which performers’ dreams came closer to coming true? Did a buzzer dash any dreams? Did anyone join the Northwell Health Nurses’ Choir and rising star Nightbride at the Dolby Theatre live shows – thanks to the Golden Buzzer? Read on to find out!
After Terry introduced the judges, it was time to get down to business! Singing group CZN kicked off the auditions (they received four “Yeses”) as the New York City-based singing trio T.3 waiting in the wings. AGT was the first time that Brendan, Liam, and Jim performed on a big stage. The trio performed Panic! At the Disco’s version of the Frozen II anthem “Into the Unknown.” I immediately got goosebumps from the trio’s harmonies, and T.3 reminded me of two beloved AGT singing ensembles – the Forte Tenors and Resound. T.3 is probably one of the best music acts that I have heard this season. All four judges were on their feet with delight! Heidi called the performance “fun,” while Sofia called it “unexpected.” The group received the night’s second unanimous “Yes.”
Comedian Kabir Singh hoped to join AGT alums such as Piff the Magic Dragon and Shin Lim in Vegas. He has supported his mother through his stand-up career after his father passed away. His routine focused on serial killer documentaries, various passwords, and how his mother was a “snitch.” The judges gave him a standing ovation, Simon loved his energy, and Howie proclaimed that Kabir was a star. He was advanced to the next round.
70-year-old Mama Char tried to prove that age was “more than a three-letter-word,” but she received a buzzer from Simon and a “No” from the judges. As she walked off the stage, 51-year-old singer Storm Large hoped that AGT would give her the opportunity she was searching for. Storm performed a haunting version of “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and I got a strong case of goosebumps! Heidi called her performance “incredible” and voted with the judges to send Storm unanimously voted through to the next round.
France’s Got Talent magician Klek Entos walked onto the AGT stage with an ominous aura surrounding him. He hacked into the control room and revealed that he is control of the show. After ignoring Heidi, Klek put a cassette into a beaten-up tape player. As he vowed that “he would solve all their fears,” a mysterious masked figure appeared on the screen. He joined the judges at their desk and asked Heidi to remove a piece of paper from the box. Once the supermodel gave him the paper, he asked Sofia to put five ink drops onto the paper.
Klek asked Terry to join the group and revealed that Sofia’s randomized ink drops could form an infinite amount of shapes. The AGT host said that he saw a spider on the inkblot drawing. Once Klek put the ink-blotted spider in the box, it magically transfigured into a hairy tarantula. As the judges winced, Klek transformed the tarantula into smoke. Heidi called the performance: “Crazy” and called him insane. Howie vowed that he would “never say NO to Klek.” I cannot wait to see what Klek does next!
The last act of the night belonged to the martial artist troupe World Taekwondo Demonstration Team. These martial artists were from all around the world and they were invited to perform for the Olympics. However, due to COVID-19, they were unable to perform so they decided to go with AGT. My jaws dropped as I thought I was watching a Universal Studios stunt show come to life. Their high-flying kicks, acrobatics, and superb board breaking really blew me away. I was very happy that Terry selected them to be his Golden Buzzer act this season.
Next week, AGT continues its fourth week of Judges’ Auditions!
