America’s Got Talent (AGT)’s nineteenth season’s live shows have been wild! Between judges battling to select their live Golden Buzzer act and the shocking decisions America has made in the voting rounds (I still have not gotten over how fans choose Alex Sampson over Bboy Samuka and Roni Sagi and Rhythm over Attraction Juniors), AGT: Season 19 has become unpredictable to call.
This week, a new group of hopefuls hoped to earn America’s votes! Did any act rise to the occasion? Who was buzzed out? Which judge had possession of the Live Golden Buzzer and selected an act to advance directly into the finale? Read on to find out!
After Terry made his fashionable entrance, he revealed that Heidi Klum had possession of the third Live Golden Buzzer. The latest incarnation of Menudo polarized the judges as both Simon and Howie had issues with the quintet. They performed an original tune, and I loved their vibe and how they incorporated the whole stage, including a shocked Howie. I thought that they stepped it up. B-
After Terry took questions from fans, Sam Huang made his AGT live show debut. The Taiwanese magician performed various tricks, including pulling a ring off of Simon’s finger before heading to the stage and removing and reattaching his fingers. Sam dropped my jaw multiple times, and I thought he cemented a frontrunner spot. A
Country music band The Reklaws entered the chat. The brother and sister duo (along with their band) performed another original song. I would have buzzed them. They did not excite me like last time, and Ashes and Arrows are the superior country music group this season. D
I have been waiting for Sabrina to make their live show debut! This Japanese dance troupe blew me away during the Season 19 Judges’ Auditions. These girls did not disappoint; their choreography was superb, and their hypnotic movements again won me over! A+
I did not like dental assistant turned aerialist Kelsey Jade when she auditioned in the AGT: Season 19 Judges Auditions. However, she won me with her superb routine featuring stunning aerial choreography. The only downside was the judge’s and audience’s reactions during the performance, but otherwise, it was one of the better performances of the evening. B+
I loved that Simon gave Journeyy and Reid advice before they took the stage. Journeyy tackled Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds,” and he sometimes gave me chills during the performance. B
Terry Crews’ Golden Buzzer act, Learnmore Jonasi, received helpful hints from Preacher Lawson and Mike E. Winfield before taking the stage. He got his Green Card, and how he was becoming more American thanks to a gluten allergy. He delivered a superb set, and Learnmore is becoming one of my favorite comedians to have graced the AGT stage. A-
I have been waiting for the Oakland, California-based nurse Dee Dee Simon to grace the AGT quarterfinals. She sang Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control” and brought the house down. It was one of the best performances of the live shows so far. I am thrilled that Heidi gave the Live Golden Buzzer to Dee Dee and that she is heading to the finale! A+
11-year-old guitarist Maya Neelakantan performed a Metallica song and made show history as the legendary rock band permitted her to perform the song. Her guitar skills reminded me so much of the legendary Jennifer Batten and Nancy Wilson. It was a fabulous performance! B+
Howie Mandel’s second Golden Buzzer act, Reid Wilson, was the final music act to perform on the Pasadena Civic Auditorium stage. If the singer won the NBC talent competition, he would get a dog. Tonight, Reid tackled Ariana Grande’s “Almost is Never Enough.” Initially, I was perplexed by the song choice, but Reid delivered a solid performance. B
Jelly Boy the Clown closed out the evening. I was not happy that he made the Season 19 live shows as he took a spot from some of my favorite acts such as Helen and Silvo Silva. I would have buzzed him. F
Tomorrow night, Lauren Daigle and Loren Allred will provide the entertainment as three new semifinalists will be revealed!
