America’s Got Talent (AGT): Season 19 had its final set of quarterfinals, and this line-up had the potential to be one of the most competitive quarterfinals of this decade.
Which acts rose to the occasion? Who received Simon Cowell’s Live Golden Buzzer? Read on to find out!
Howie Mandel’s first Golden Buzzer act, Brent Street, opened the show. The Australian-based dance troupe delivered a mesmerizing routine that added numerous twists and turns. It was a superb start to the show. A
Illya and Anastasia Strakhov performed their routine to Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell.” Illya balanced his head on two bowling bowls on top of a platform. While it was impressive, I felt like the setup throughout the act took much time out of the performance. C-
Oscar Stembridge decided to perform an original song, and the performance was shaky. He was trying too hard to be like Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes when he should have been himself. D+
Jonathan Burns’s unique blend of comedy and magic earned him a spot in the AGT: Season 19 semifinals. I loved that he brought Terry to assist him. I loved his humor as he escaped the straightjacket and the sleeper sofa. That was amazingly cheesy, and I loved it! B
L6 returned for their shot at the AGT: Season 19 semifinal glory! The Phillippines-based sextet survived a typhoon, which destroyed their property. I am glad that they performed “Rewrite the Stars,” and I loved their harmonies, which gave me chills. It was a vocal touchdown!! A-
I have two words to describe Tonikaku’s performance: “hot mess.” F
Singer Stephanie Rainey left Ireland to compete in the final AGT quarterfinals of the season. Her original song, “Woman,” gave me chills. This song truly honored her mother and struck a chord with the audience. B+
Aerial duo Sebastian & Sonia were fan favorites going into the evening. However, Sonia suffered a massive injury, which forced Sebastian to perform alone. Sebastian delivered a mesmerizing routine to Shawn Mendes’s “In My Blood.” Sebastian truly showcased what a warrior he is and truly saved this quarterfinal. I am glad that Simon gave them his Golden Buzzer. A+
Sofia Vergara declared that comedian Erica Rhodes was her favorite comedy act to have appeared on AGT. Her set focused on her voice, getting older – “Lady years old,” and going on a blind date. She made me smile. B
Pranysqa Mishra, Heidi Klum’s second Golden Buzzer act, closed out the evening as she sang Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.” There were shades of Season 16 finalist (and former Team Miley protege) Brooke Simpson and OG champion Bianca Ryan in her vocals. Pranysqa has a bright future and I hope that Miley was watching the performance. B+
