The Voice began a new era as veterans Adam Levine and Blake Shelton welcomed former advisors Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus to the coaches’ chairs.
As the Rio Olympics concluded, The Voice gave their fans a taste of things to come for the eleventh season with a half-hour special.
Will the ladies give Adam and Blake a run for the money? Read on to find out!
The first singer to kick off Season 11 was We McDonald, and she opened the season with a bang with her take of Nina Simone’s “Feelin’ Good.” Miley became the first coach to open the season by turning her chair around followed by Alicia, Blake, and finally Adam. I thought I was listening to Nina Simone’s reincarnation. Her vocals blew me away, and I got the goosebumps! The 17-year-old received the first standing ovation of Season 11! Miley called her a total star, while Alicia praised her vocals and asked her family to join her on stage. Blake tried to use her family and to his leverage, while Adam wanted to throw a party if We chose him. However, We decided to join Team Alicia.
As Alicia handed Kleenex to Adam, Blake, and Miley, 17-year-old Darby Walker was the next artist to take The Voice stage. She chose to perform Florence + the Machine’s cover of “Stand By Me.” Her tone is something I have not seen on this show since its inception in 2011. Darby’s superb performance caught the attention of Miley, Alicia, and Blake. Miley and Darby immediately bonded with “grandmother power” and the “Wrecking Ball” singer did an impromptu duet of her godmother, Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” with her. As Miley left the stage, Alicia told Darby to “never lose her individuality” and they belted a few bars of “No One.” Eventually, Darby decided to enlist with Team Miley!
Once, Miley finished meeting Darby’s family; she joined her coaches to perform Aerosmith’s “Dream On.” This song has special meaning to this show as Team Adam’s Amanda Brown conquered this hill four years ago. But, it was impeccable to see all four coaches join forces for this epic song. I cannot wait for this season to start!
The Voice returns September 19!
