This is it! The Voice: Season 12 Blind Auditions concluded tonight.
Alicia Keys needed to score two artists, while Adam, Blake, and Gwen only need one more singer to complete their teams.
Who were the last artists to complete the coaches’ teams? Read on to find out!
As Adam admitted that he loved this season’s line-up of coaches, 31-year-old Greensboro, North Carolina resident Vanessa Ferguson is a classically trained singer but loves R&B and hip-hop and recently just finished a stint as a member of the B.B. King All-Star Tribute Band. Vanessa immediately caught my attention as she transformed The Chainsmokers’ “Don’t Let Me Down” into a fight anthem. I loved her showmanship and that great rough note near the decrescendo of the song. Vanessa’s voice captured the attention of Alicia, Gwen, and Blake. I loved her attitude and confidence that she showed on stage and with her family. I am glad that she chose Alicia to be her coach because that combination will be one to watch this season.
17-year-old Dawson Coyle was a fan of the show and always wondered what it would be like to audition for The Voice. Dawson was able to turn a moment of personal strife (his family’s house was burnt down) into triumph as he tackled NEEDTOBREATHE’s “Happiness.” Dawson’s voice reminded me of a hybrid of Will Champlin, Matt McAndrew, and Shawn Mendes. Dawson’s performance earned him the final spot on Team Blake!
25-year-old Jozy Bernadette may have come from basketball royalty, but she always loved music. She chose to give a sultry makeover to the Guess Who & Lenny Kravitz’s “American Woman.” I loved Jozy’s voice from the first note, and those vocal leaps have put a smile on my face! Jozy got the attention of both Adam and Gwen! Adam called Jozy’s voice “incredible,” but Gwen wanted to help her work on a few things! Gwen became the second coach to complete her team as Jozy picked Team Gwen for her Voice journey.
33-year-old Fort Meyers Beach, Florida native Sheena Brook came from a diverse background of music, such as pop, rap, and rock, but Sheena loves country music. Sheena rocked out to Sugarland’s “Baby Girl, ” and like Jozy, Sheena put a smile on my face. Sheena became the final member of Team Adam.
The last artist to face the coaches was 26-year-old Chris Blue. The youngest of seven siblings was like the modern-day Jackson family. They performed on BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel, and while they still performed together, Chris wanted to step into the spotlight alone. Chris was the only artist tonight to give me the chills as his version of Smokey Robinson’s “Track of My Tears” was pitch perfect, and I am glad that he ended the Blind Auditions on a high note! Welcome to Team Alicia, Chris!
Next week, the Season 12 Battle Rounds begin as the show welcomes superstar advisors John Legend, DJ Khaled, Luke Bryan, and the one and only Celine Dion!
