Things have definitely changed since the last time I reported from the Avengers vs. X-Men battle lines. Warning! The next paragraphs contain spoilers!
Avengers vs. X-Men: While attempting to destroy the Phoenix, Iron Man’s giant weapon of mass destruction fails to extinguish the cosmic force, the Phoenix was split into five X-Men: Cyclops, Emma Frost, Colossus, Namor and Magik. They returned back to Utopia and they slowly began to improve the world with their newly found cosmic powers.
The Avengers began to retrieve Hope from Utopia on a secret mission. When they got to the X-Men’s headquarters, an angry Cyclops, who told them that Hope was not going anywhere, confronted them. Meanwhile, the Scarlet Witch arrives on the scene and warns Scott that this will not end well. The one-eyed mutant leader tried to capture her but the former Avenger’s chaos magic actually hurt him and as she teleported Hope and the Avengers away, Cyclops declares war on the Avengers.
As the Avengers went on the run, Magik and a group of veteran X-Men tracked them down. While Magik dueled with the Scarlet Witch, veteran X-Men Havok and Polaris destroy popular Avenger and the Scarlet Witch’s ex-husband the Vision. Enraged, Scarlet Witch knocks out Magik before leaving the scene. Eventually, she humiliates Namor by teleporting him against his will. Enraged, the Atlantean Monarch leads an invasion to Wakanda to stop the Avengers.
Avengers/New Avengers: There are two different stories that are featured in both of these titles. In Avengers, Noh-Varr realizes that he betrayed the wrong team as he kicked off of the team and hunted by his own people. Meanwhile in New Avengers, readers learn about Iron Fist’s connection to the Phoenix Force and we see Hope teaming up with Spider-Man.
Uncanny X-Men/Wolverine & the X-Men: The Uncanny X-Men side of the story focuses on the Phoenix Five’s birth and Mr. Sinister’s plans for the Phoenix Force. Meanwhile over in Wolverine & the X-Men, more and more students and faculty have left Wolverine’s faction to join Cyclops’s side. Rachel Grey and Iceman are forced to track down their colleagues and friends because of Cyclops’s degree. Meanwhile, Shi’Ar ruler Gladiator arrives on Earth to find his son and declares war on Cyclops and the rest of the Phoenix Five.
