Tonight, either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will become the 45th President of the United States.
Throughout this difficult and emotional campaign, pop culture has provided us with hysterical sketches that made us smile, laugh, and think.
Jake’s Take pays homage to some of the best bits from this election cycle!
Jimmy Trump
Since Donald Trump announced his presidential ambitions, The Tonight Show host has mastered the art of parodying the former Celebrity Apprentice host and creator. Over the past year, Jimmy Trump has shared Studio 6B with the Donald himself; called his opponents such as “Dr. Ben Carson,” Ted Cruz, and Hillary Clinton; had a sing-off with Barbra Streisand; and received an earful from Madea.
Late Night’s A Closer Look
In the wake of Jon Stewart’s exit from The Daily Show, we needed a late night TV host who was going to take both political parties to task. Enter Seth Meyers! The former Saturday Night Live head writer and cast member has made his mark during this political cycle with his segment: A Closer Look. Throughout his eight-to-11-minute segment, the former Weekend Update anchor combined his sharp wit as he threw sarcastic barbs at all of the presidential candidates and their allies. Some of Meyers’ greatest hits include August 29’s “Trump and Hillary Debate Prep,” September 29’s “Trump Blunders, Hillary and Millennials, Gary Johnson Gaffe,” and November 2’s “The Polls Tighten with Six Days Left.”
Kate McKinnon’s HRC
I always thought that no Saturday Night Live cast member could beat Amy Poehler’s Joker-esque take on Secretary Clinton. However, Kate McKinnon’s Emmy-winning portrayal of a cynical and over-the-top impression of Hillary Clinton made this election season exciting. Between her showdowns with Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump during the Presidential elections and her encounter with “Val,” McKinnon’s Hillary impression was the backbone of the past two seasons of SNL and made the long-running sketch comedy series—“Must Watch TV” during this election cycle.
Colbert’s Cartoon Candidates
Stephen Colbert found his stride by interviewing the candidates’ cartoon personas. Cartoon Donald Trump has made eight different appearances during the election cycle. This buffoonish character made audiences squeal with laughter. From making fun of his math skills to wearing a Rastafarian wig, Cartoon Donald Trump made a “huge” mark on the Late Show. It’s a shame that Cartoon Hillary Clinton appeared twice on the Late Show because she was a hoot!
In all seriousness, no matter what happens tonight Americans must come together and support our newly elected leader.
The whole world is watching us and I pray that we heal all wounds that were inflicted upon us during this election.
