When viewers last saw the villainous imp, he sacrificed his life to save Belle, Neal and his grandson from his treacherous father: Peter Pan.
However, fans received a huge shock when they found out Zelena (the Wicked Witch of the West) was keeping a revitalized (and slightly crazed) Gold and his Dark One dagger under her watch.
Before the Charmings, Hook and Regina discovered that Mr. Gold was alive, Storybrooke’s VIW (very important warlock) escaped his holding cell. Now the race is on to find the vicious villain! Were the Charmings able to help him reunite with Belle? Did Zelena and her Flying Monkeys recapture him? Read on to find out!
Back in the Enchanted Forest, Belle and Neal separated from the group and journeyed to Rumple’s old castle. They were eager to bring Mr. Gold back from the dead. When they journeyed into the study, they met Lumiere…who gave them a hint on how to bring the Villain Formerly Known as the Dark One to the land of the living. Little did they know that Lumiere is in league with Zelena, whose goals were to control Rumpelstiltskin with his Dark One dagger.
As they journeyed deeper into the Forest, they found the burial site of the very first Dark One. However, Belle sensed that the candelabra lied to them and the duo demanded him to tell them the truth. Lumiere spilled that the Wicked Witch of the West wanted them to revive Rumple so she could control him. While Belle had second thoughts, Neal put a key into the Vault of the Dark One and brought his beloved Papa back to life.
Unfortunately, Neal (who was left with a nasty looking triangular brand) and Rumple merged into one being and Zelena revealed herself and was able to capture Gold.
Back in Storybrooke, the search for the Wicked Witch of the West came to a halt as they decided to search for Mr. Gold. As a bewildered Belle was happy to hear the news, she was more shocked to see Neal barge into the Pawn Shop. At the hospital, Emma and Neal briefly reunited and sadly told her former lover that Henry does not have his usual memories. Unfortunately, Emma did not want Neal to leave and had Hook stand guard.
After convincing Hook to let him go, Neal rushed to the Storybrooke Forest, where he reunited with Emma to locate his dad. However, Belle revealed that Neal’s nasty looking wound was lethal and could cost him his life. He forced Emma to use her magic to separate the Gold men. While Gold was cured of his insanity, he revealed that Zelena was the Wicked Witch and fought back tears as he said goodbye to his only son.
Next week, with Zelena’s true identity revealed…it is time for Evil Queen vs. Wicked Witch of the West-Round One!
