Jacob at 23: A Reflection

On September 3, 2011, I will turn 23 years old!  Holy smokes!  I still remember having my Bar Mitzvah Weekend from August 31 to September 2, 2001, which was 10 years ago!

It feels like a lifetime ago!  The World Trade Center’s Twin Towers was not destroyed, Apple would launch the first generation iPod in October and George W. Bush was still in the beginning stages of his first term as President.

I started 7th grade at Oxford Middle School in the Blue Valley School District in Overland Park, Kansas and continue to attend religious school at Congregation Beth Shalom.    It was the time that I continued listening to Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC non-stop and began listening to iconic performers including Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Fleetwood Mac.

The only things that I had worried about were passing Integrated Algebra 7, making good grades and being a good son, brother and family member.  But now lets fast forward ten years later….

Earlier this year, I have graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelors of Science in Broadcast News and earned a History minor and a Business certificate.  I have interned in a time span of a year at WDAF-TV FOX 4 News in Kansas City, KMGH-TV ABC 7 News and KUSA-TV NBC 9 News in Denver.

I am blessed with a terrific family, a great group of friends and the ability to had traveled to many places across the United States including New York, Las Vegas, Estes Park and Walt Disney World in Orlando and across the world including London, Paris, Florence and Tel Aviv.

Now that I am turning 23, it seems like I have everything that I ever wanted and my goals have changed since 10 years ago…I want to get a job in media and inform the public from either in front or behind the camera.   The job search might be one of the toughest things I have to experience so far in my life.   This search could be tougher than pulling off a successful Eagle Project or writing a 14-page history paper.

I have confidence that I will be able to continue to persevere through my challenges and manage to make a difference in the world.  Have a great Labor Day Weekend!
