Jacob at 24: A Reflection

By: Jacob Elyachar

Another year of my life has flown by and I am very blessed of the opportunities I had while I was 23-years-old.

As I prepped for writing this article, I looked back into all the opportunities that I had while I was 23 and I made a small greatest hits list for you:

Aaron and I were in awe when we first saw the Grand Canyon. If you have not traveled to see the Grand Canyon, you should plan a trip. (Photo property of Travlang Travel Guide.)

Grand Canyon/Sedona, Arizona trip

After my brother Aaron graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson this past May, we went on a road trip to the Grand Canyon.   When you first visit this natural wonder of the world, you will be astonished.  Both my brother and I have been reading about it since we were in elementary school and we were so stoked to see it we were jumping up and down and screaming “Oh My God!” at the top of our lungs.   Another city we traveled to was Sedona, Arizona.   We took tons of pictures and admired the sights and the rocks from a Pink Jeep.    While I enjoyed traveling across Arizona, there is one city that holds one special place in my heart…

New York Comic Con/Today Show visit

In October 2011, I first attended one of the biggest comic book conventions on the planet: The New York Comic Con.   I was one of the thousands of people who were crammed into the Javits Center and to learn the latest from the world of pop culture.   Some of my highlights included meetings one of my all-time favorite creative teams: Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale (Batman: the Long Halloween, Batman: Dark Victory) and hearing the rumbles about Avengers vs. X-Men.

Another highlight of my trip to the Big Apple included waking up at 4:45 a.m. on a dreary Monday morning to head over to Rockefeller Plaza where I stood outside Studio 1A and watched the Today Show go live on the East Coast.   It was great to meet some of my fellow Today fans and meet both Matt Lauer and Ann Curry.

Meshuggie Crossfit

I was never in the best shape growing up and I had a trainer but it did not work out the way I wanted to…. However, when a new Crossfit chapter started at my local gym, I was curious to try it and was one of the founding members.   Throughout the past months, I began to see results as I tackled challenge after challenge with my supportive Crossfit trainers and Crossfit family by my side.

Concerts, Concerts and Concerts

Within the past year, I have seen multiple artists rock out different venues.  Whether it was seeing rising singer Shannon Curtis perform at a Shawnee house on a stormy Kansas night, Voice finalist Dia Frampton singing a her cover of “Heartless” at the Record Bar in downtown Westport or Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez making the crowd scream at the Sprint Center at their joint concert in August, these concerts have lasting memories and I cannot wait for the next batch of performers I have the opportunity to see.

Telling stories

When I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder, I wanted to be a storyteller and a journalist.  In my past year, this blog: jacobelyacharjournalist.com has interviewed some of the biggest rising stars from the worlds of music, fitness and movies.   I would like to thank Drew Manning, Josh Skinner, LeRoy Bell, Daniel Joseph Baker, Kim Yarbrough, Robin Colucci Hoffman, Jori, Thomas Schubert, Sideswipe’s Matt Mullins and countless of other people who took time out of their schedules to interview you.   I hope that I will continue to deliver great interviews for this year.
