When I was in fourth grade at Indian Valley Elementary School, a lot of today’s popular singers and bands dropped their CDs. Two acts that I enjoyed listening to their music were Latin sensation Enrique Iglesias and dance floor queen Jennifer Lopez. Who would have imagined 13 years later that these two diverse acts would hit the road together? When the tour stopped in Kansas City, I went to see it and I loved every second of it….
Enrique Iglesias:
The Latin heartthrob kicked off the evening with an impeccable set of his greatest hits with his superb band. Enrique sounded incredible and the energy that the Sprint Center brought accelerated his desire to perfection. He also mingled with the audience as he interacted with two male audience members when he sang a cover of “Stand by Me” and made a female fan’s dream come true during his performance of “Hero,” where he dedicated to the crowd after he stated that Kansas City re-energized him after an off night in Detroit during his last tour.
Best songs of the set: “Dirty Dancer,” “Tonight I’m Lovin You,” “I Like How It Feels,” “Rhythm Divine” and “Baliamos.”
Jennifer Lopez:
The former American Idol judge made her Kansas City debut for an short but superb set that featured outstanding dancing from Lopez and her dancers. Like Enrique, Jennifer interacted with crowd from taking pictures them to complementing about the audience’s energy. While there were several songs missing from the set list including: “If You Had My Love,” “Hold It Don’t Drop It” and the “Until It Beats No More,” Lopez made up for their absence by adding in an impressive bongo solo before “Let’s Get Loud” and a spectacular “Dance Again” finale that featured a steamy dance from Jennifer and principal dancer/co-director Casper Smart.
Best songs of the set: “Waiting for Tonight,” “I’m Into You,” “Let’s Get Loud,” “Papi” and “Dance Again.”
Overall thoughts and grade: If you have the chance to see this concert, absolutely go see it. You are in for a total treat as both performers successfully bring their A-games to arenas around the country where the tour wraps up on September 2 in Orlando. A-
