Last night, I had the privilege and pleasure of seeing Tap Dogs at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts through the Kansas City Theater League’s Broadway Series.
This spectacular show was one of the best theatrical dance productions I have ever seen.
The show started off with an impressive solo by Anthony Russo and after his solo, the audience was introduced to the remaining five dancers through a comical and superb routine that made the audience cheer and laugh through the segment.
When the six guys were dancing together in unison, audience members could tell how many hours of rehearsal went in to perform such impressive routines including one dancer dancing on the ceiling and a student/teacher tap-off which were both very entertaining.
One of the things that I liked about Tap Dogs is that the guys showcased a lot of creativity in the show that kept the crowd entertained, which included dribbling basketballs, tapping on a life-size percussion box and showcasing their ability to take risks throughout the production.
Another item that makes Tap Dogs a successful show is their interaction with the audience. Throughout the show, the dancers did an extraordinary job using the audience to their advantage as they encouraged them to snap along while the dancers performed their solos or group numbers. The crowd’s energy helped the guys excel with their performance and made this show enjoyable to watch.
Final thoughts and grade: Tap Dogs will provide families with an incredible night of astonishing footwork, outstanding choreography and six of the best tap dancers in the world. A+
