Bernadette Peters will be returning to Kansas City this weekend.
The Broadway star will kick off the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts’ 2012-13 American Legends Series. This series showcases legendary artists who are the crème-de-la-crème of their fields and have played an essential part in changing American culture.
Throughout her career, Ms. Peters has gained fans from around the world through her performances as the Witch from Into the Woods, Dot/Marie from Sunday in the Park with George and Rose from the 2003 revival of Gypsy. However, Ms. Peters could be best remembered for her roles as Emma in the 1985 hit musical Song and Dance and Annie Oakley in the 1999 revival of Annie Get Your Gun, where she won two Tony Awards and Drama Desk Awards.
In addition to her success on the Great White Way, Ms. Peters has appeared in seventeen films in her multi-decade career including Annie (starring Carol Burnett), Mel Brooks’ Silent Movie, The Longest Yard (starring Burt Reynolds) and Pink Cadillac (starring Clint Eastwood). Also, she has appeared on multiple television shows including Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy and Smash. In addition, she has voiced animated characters for various animation projects including Animaniacs, Anastasia, and the upcoming 2013 film: Dorothy of Oz.
Outside of her accomplishments in the entertainment industry, Ms. Peters is an accomplished children’s author, co-founded Broadway Barks alongside T.V. icon Mary Tyler Moore back in 1998 to educate New York City residents about the misfortunes and pitfalls of thousands of “homeless” canines and felines face in the Manhattan area and has worked with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
