Last season, viewers were enchanted by ABC’s hit fantasy drama Once Upon A Time that centered on classic fairy tale characters that were banished to the real world without any memory of their previous lives thanks to a curse enacted by Queen Regina (Lana Parrilla).
The only person powerful enough to stop this curse was 28-year-old Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), the daughter of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas). After months of not believing in her curse, it took the near death of her son, Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) to fulfill her destiny that saved her son’s life and destroyed the curse.
Tonight, Once Upon A Time returns for its second season where the fairy tale characters now their true identities and thanks to manipulations from the show’s second antagonist Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlye)…magic is back in Storybrooke. This article focuses on the previews of what’s to come this season.
New characters
Expect Storybrooke’s population to grow as new fairy tale characters are coming to town. Viewers will meet the heroic Prince Philip, Princess Aurora and Mulan in tonight’s season premiere. It is confirmed that the two Disney Princesses along with another classic hero Lancelot will encounter Emma and Snow early on during the season. In addition, LOST’s Jorge Garcia and Colin O’Donoghue will portray Jack in the Beanstalk’s Giant and Captain Hook respectfully.
A return to the Enchanted Forest
What made Once Upon A Time a success was its transitions between Storybrooke and the Enchanted Forest, where viewers learned what events formed the foundations and point-of-views of several characters including Snow, Charming, Regina and Rumpelstiltskin. According to an article by TV Line founder Michael Ausiello, the Enchanted Forest will be back in the show but with new twists inside it.
Familiar faces are back for more
Fans can expect to see more of Belle and Red Riding Hood this season as their respective portrayers Emilie de Ravin and Meghan Ory have been bumped to show regulars. Meanwhile, fan-favorite guest stars David Anders, Sebastian Stan and Barbara Hensley have been bumped up to recurring cast members which means expect Dr. Whale, the Mad Hatter and Regina’s villainous mother: Cora to continue show off their manipulative ways sometime this season. However, hardcore fans of the show still want to see the recently deceased hunky Sheriff Graham (Jamie Dornan) and the fiery Maleficent (Kristen Bauer van Straten) grace their screens once again.
Unanswered questions will be answered
During this year’s San Diego Comic Con, Once’s head honchos and creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz stated that several of the viewers’ unanswered questions will be at last answered. Season two will reveal to fans the answers to the following mysteries: Who is Dr. Whale’s fairy tale counterpart? How did Regina gain her magic powers? What happened to Rumpleskiltskin’s son, Baefire? And most importantly, who is Henry’s father?
