All-New X-Men #18

Welcome to the New Xavier School, Professor Kitty Pryde and OG (Original) X-Men! I hope that you survive the experience. After the fallout of Battle of the Aton, Bendis sends the group to Canada where they have awkward encounters with the Uncanny X-Men, Vol. 3 cast and get new costumes. From creating potential rivalry in Jean and the Stepford Cuckoos and both OG Beast and Magneto to throwing in bits of long-lost X-Men history (see X-Men: Phoenix Warsong for more on the “Emma Frost Test Tube Baby Fail” insult), Bendis and crew created a highly entertaining issue that will make X-Men aficionados very happy! I cannot wait for the next chapter in X-history. A-
Batman, Vol. 2 #25

Zero Year intensifies as the Dark Knight looks for answers to Riddler’s first assault on Gotham City. The Batman crew introduced important figures to Batman’s future including a certain Harvey Bullock and the future Poison Ivy. In addition, fans were re-introduced to the second villain in the “Dark City” chapter: a re-imagined Phantom of the Opera-esque Doctor Death. My heart skipped a beat when the antagonist appeared the final page. If you are not buying Batman, Vol. 2 then you are not a comic book fan! A+
Justice League of America #9
Creative Team: Matt Kindt (Writer), Tom Derenick (Penciller), Tom Nguyen & Allen Martinez (Inkers)
Forever Evil continues to haunt the Justice Leagues. As members of all three teams faced their demons (a bulk of them failed), Martian Manhunter and Stargirl worked together to break out of the Crime Syndicate’s jailhouse. In the meantime, readers briefly glimpsed into Stargirl’s New 52 origin before she was confronted by members of the Secret Society. Fill-in writer Matt Kindt proved that he is an impeccable candidate for a Martian Manhunter ongoing series and was successful in delivering a strong story. Unfortunately, I wished that Doug Mahnke or Brett Booth were handling art chores because the artwork was all over the place. C

Who would have imagined that I would be reading a Superman/Wonder Woman team-up book? The New 52’s It couple faced off with Doomsday and the Greek Gods (Wonder Woman’s siblings). In addition to the powerful threats, a longtime fan-favorite Superman villain rears his ugly head at the end of the issue. Superman/Wonder Woman’s sophomore issue continues to prove up to the hype by delivering a sturdy story and outstanding artwork from Daniel, Batt, Florea and colorist Tomeu Morey! This is the perfect time to get on board the Superman and Wonder Woman Express! A
