Artists to Watch
Jake’s Take’s Artists to Watch is back! Here are some of the musicians that you need keep your eye on as 2021 rolls on.
HIDEOUT: BE OUR VOICE by CRAVITY
K-pop group CRAVITY released their third studio album. CRAVITY is a nine-piece group made up of Serim, Allen, Jungmmo, Woobin, Wonjin, Minhee, Hyeongjun, Taeyoung, and Seongmin. The group has a massive following in Asia and is now ready to launch in the United States. CRAVITY’s HIDEOUT: BE OUR VOICE does have the potential to be equivalent to BTS’s Map of the Soul: 7 and Monsta X’s All About Luv. The album is very entertaining, and there is a strong possibility of the nonet conquering North America this year through streaming and virtual media appearances. Good luck, CRAVITY! B+
Tracks to Download: “My Turn,” “Mammoth,” “Bad Habits,” & “Moonlight.”
“What I’m Fighting For” by Animal Years
NYC-based rock band Animal Years is one band that must be on your watch list! Animal Years’ line-up consists of vocalist and guitarist Mike McFadden, bassist Anthony Saladino, and drummer Anthony Spinnato. Their latest single, “What I’m Fighting For,” is a powerful anthem that not only could be used on shows like American Ninja Warrior and America’s Got Talent, but it is a song that everyone should listen to right now. “Villain” by Lily Rose
Lily Rose is doing something right after Variety reported that Republic Records, Big Loud Records, and Back Blocks Music collaborated to sign her. When I heard the first few notes of “Villain,” Lily’s vocal tone immediately made me think that she was a hybrid of Jennifer Nettles and the late Amy Winehouse. “Villain” is a superb song from start to finish, and she could be one of this year’s top emerging artists. “Spellbinding” by Nadia Vaeh
Atlanta native Nadia Vaeh dropped her latest single: “Spellbinding.” The song is hypnotizing from start to finish, and “Spellbinding” showcases her drive as a recording artist. I am looking forward to hearing from Nadia in the future. B
“First” by Your Paris
Toronto-based duo Your Paris rounds out this edition of Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews. Made up of Nick Babcock and Laila Kharouba, Your Paris specializes in dream-pop music. I believe that listeners will be hypnotized by Lalia’s vocals and Nick’s superb instrumental production. “First” might remind listeners of Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait,” the legendary Dawson’s Creek theme song. I believe that “First” is the beginning of Your Paris’ “firsts,” as this song is a hit. B+
