This Friday evening, hundreds will be heading to the Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland for the 2014 Variety Show.
Every year, the Variety Show benefits Variety, the Children’s Charity of Greater Kansas City. The charity’s mission is to help make the dreams of Kansas City children become a reality. For countless children, two huge wishes that Variety and their limitless donors and volunteers have given over the past 80 years are the power of mobility and the power of communication.
“We purchase wheelchairs, ramps for vans, adaptive bikes, iPads for kids to be able to communicate with their parents,” said Joy Sedlacek, Owner of JLS Consulting and Variety volunteer. “We will do anything to help these kids feel like a kid!”
To help raise money for these necessary items, audience members can bid on multiple items throughout the evening in three different auctions.
“Unique to this year are the Mystery Boxes.” Sedlacek said. “Guests can make a donation of either $50 or $100 and they will receive a gift in return of equal or more of that value. Some of the items include a Jamaal Charles autographed football, a Cal Ripken, Jr autographed baseball, winery tours, Apple iPhones, restaurant gift cards, and more!”
In addition, there will be also be a silent auction going on that includes items such as bottled wine, your own cupping session with the Roasterie and the chance to be judges at this year’s Plaza Art Fair food competition. However, the biggest (and most competitive) auction of the night will be the Live Auction, which has a ton of huge big-ticket items.
“Among the incredible items we have include a Sprint Center suite for the Katy Perry concert in August and four tickets to see the final George Strait show at Cowboy Stadium,” Sedlacek said. “We also have a trip for two to see the premiere Amazing Spider-Man 2 and walk the red carpet with the stars.”
Guests will also have the chance to sample some of the finest cuisine in Kansas City. Blanc Burgers + Bottles, Grand Street Café, Drunken Fish, Lon Lane Catering and Zarda BBQ are among the venders that will be providing dishes exclusively for this event.
Keep an eye on this year’s entertainment! Several fan-favorites (magician Devin Henderson and country rocker Drew Six) return and new performers are preparing to excite the crowd.
“Performance painter Mike Debus plans to paint the Kansas City skyline in 10 minutes to music,” Sedlacek said. “Then, the awesome and hilarious Sinbad will take the stage to perform!”
