For the past year-and-a-half, The View has undergone a massive shake-up to its line-up.
Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck both left the hit ABC gab fest in 2013 for new career opportunities (Hasselbeck for FOX & Friends; Behar to return to stand-up comedy). View co-creator Barbara Walters recently left last month for her on-air retirement. Now, after seven years and one year respectively, Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy have announced that they are leaving the show.
With only Whoopi Goldberg as the remaining co-host, the View needs to fill three (or four) chairs by mid-September! So, here are my suggestions for who the Alphabet Network should talk about joining Whoopi this fall…
“The Familiar Face Lisa Ling”: The View might need to some familiar faces to re-join the show. If I were in the shoes of the show’s producers, I would highly recommend talking to Lisa Ling. With Walters’ absence, the show needs a commentator with a journalistic background and Ling fits the part perfectly.

“The Familiar Firecracker: Rosie O’Donnell”: Another name that has been floating around the Internet is Rosie O’Donnell! The Season 10 co-host brought wild energy to the show and is co-credited along with Behar for bringing politics into The View’s signature segment: Hot Topics. By having O’Donnell back, I think it would bring that wild (and sometimes unpredictable) energy it had in the mid-2000s back into play.
A Hispanic or Latino Superstar: One of the fastest growing ethnic groups in the United States (and according to the US Census) are Hispanics and Latinos. I think that The View should hire a huge name to gain more Hispanic or Latino viewers. Gloria Estefan, Soledad O’Brien, Eva Longoria or Sofia Vergara would definitely spice up the show.

A Man: For the past 17 years, The View has been a “Woman’s World”! I think a massive change for the show would be having a permanent male co-host! Longtime male guest co-hosts Bryant Gumbel, D.L. Hughley or Mario Cantone might have an edge in talks. In addition, the show would benefit with the presence of either Carson Kressley, Mario Lopez or Regis Philbin.
