Rejoice Voice fans! The Live Rounds begin Monday!
Before the 12 remaining artists hit the stage and fight to inherit Tessanne Chin’s crown and sash, here are my rankings on all of the teams and which artist is their team’s VIS (Very Important Singer).
Team Blake (Audra McLaughlin, Jake Worthington & Sisaundra Lewis)
Season Six is Blake’s to lose! The country singer has built his best team line-up of all the seasons! Every time Audra steps onto the Voice stage, she delivers impeccable vocals (see “Angel from Montgomery” and “A Broken Wing”). Jake Worthington has one of the best stage presences in the competition and I rather listen to him then several off-key singers on Idol. Since his performance of “Don’t Close Your Eyes,” Jake has grown leaps and bounds.
Blake’s VIS: Sisaundra Lewis is probably the best female singer that has ever been on the show! She turned out the most moments out of any artist so far and I believe she could win this season. Check out her performances of “Ain’t No Way,” “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World” and “New York State of Mind”
Team Shakira (Dani Moz, Tess Boyer & Kristen Merlin)
It is amazing what the Playoffs can do to both the artists and their coach. Since the end of the first Battle Rounds, I had Team Shakira in last place. However, these women proved me wrong and delivered exceptional performances. Dani Moz proved herself worthy her unbelievable cover of “The Edge of Glory” and Tess Boyer continued to blossom with Christina Perri’s hit: “Human.”
Shakira’s VIS: It infuriated me that the Voice’s Powers-That-Be (PTB) montaged Kristen Merlin’s battles. I loved her energy that she provided with her Blind Audition and if she continues to deliver performances like “Two Black Cadillacs,” I believe that Kristen could make it to the finale.
Team Usher (T.J. Wilkins, Bria Kelly & Josh Kauffman)
Usher lost his second place holding when he got rid of Stevie Jo! I like T.J. but he is no Trevin Hunte! His performance of “Tell Me Something Good” did not hit the mark that Kim Yarbrough set so high four seasons ago! I have previous exposure to Bria’s work on America’s Got Talent and while I thought that she delivered with “Steamroller Blues,” it seems that she could be doing too much screaming to hit her notes.
Usher’s VIS: Josh Kauffman has been delivering outstanding performances week after week! He shined on “One More Try” and “It Will Rain.” In addition, Josh is one of the stronger male vocalists left in the competition. I hope Josh represents Team Usher in the finale.
Team Adam (Christina Grimmie, Kat Perkins & Delvin Choice)
For the past two seasons, Team Adam has delivered incredible performances (Amber Carrington’s “Skyfall” & Will Champlin’s “At Last”). Unfortunately, with this group, I only see one breakout star. I am being completely honest; Christina Grimmie has an unfair advantage to get to the finale (her fanbase on social media is way too massive)! It takes hard work and dedication, and I think everyone has seen her best with “Wrecking Ball.” Kat Perkins is good…but not a showstopper like past rocker girls Juliet Simms, Amanda Brown and Kat Robichaud.
Adam’s VIS: The two-time Voice champion’s best chance to win is Delvin Choice. He returned with a vengeance with his goose bump inducing cover of Leon Russell’s classic “A Song for You.” Along with his “Signed, Sealed and Delivered (I’m Yours)” battle partner Josh Kaufman; Delvin is the only other male vocalist that could win this show!
