Planet Comicon kicks off in TWO days!
I have always enjoyed going to Kansas City’s largest pop culture celebration and since it moved from the Overland Park International Trade Center to Bartle Hall, the convention has gotten bigger and better.
Jake’s Take has several tips and reveals his picks of what will be potential highlights of the three-day pop culture convention!
Download the App
Did you know that Planet Comicon has an app? MediaOne of Utah has created an app that will help fans navigate throughout Bartle Hall, buy passes, find out where your favorite creators, media personalities and vendors will be hanging out throughout the convention.
Legends
Planet Comicon will have several pop culture legends drop in this weekend! Barbara Eden will make her Kansas City debut, while Lou Ferrigno, Edward James Olmos and George Takei make their triumphant returns to Kansas City. However, the major highlight of the convention might be legendary Marvel creator Stan Lee’s panel. If you want to meet the Spider-Man, Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Avengers and X-Men co-creator, you must have bought a VIP package. Besides Mr. Lee, comic luminaries Neal Adams, Bill Sienkiewicz and Howard Chaykin are scheduled to be in the attendance.
Kevin Smith-One Night Only
One of pop culture’s biggest aficionados, Kevin Smith, will bring his one-man show: An Evening with Kevin Smith to Kansas City Friday night. The comedian-author-filmmaker is scheduled to entertain Planet Comicon attendees from 8 PM to 10 PM. Hopefully, he will talk about Comic Book Men’s renewal with Season Six, his Flash episode and desires to work on Arrow in his set.
Star Wars comes to Planet Comicon
Representatives from the Galaxy Far, Far Away will land at Bartle Hall. Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Tom Kane (Yoda), Mark Dodson (Salacious Crumb) and two actors that played the villainous Boba Fett (Jeremy Bulloch and Daniel Logan) will be on hand to talk about their time in the Star Wars universe and sign autographs for fans.
Millennials Delight
If you are a fan of either the Arrowverse, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Once Upon A Time or Power Ranger fan: read this! Some of your favorite actors are scheduled to be in attendance at Planet Comicon. Arthur Darvill, Danielle Panabaker, Sean Maher and Manu Bennett will represent Legends of Tomorrow, the Flash and Arrow respectively, while Tom Felton makes his Kansas City debut. Legendary Power Rangers actor and mixed martial artist Jason David Frank, Doctor Who actress Jenna Coleman and Breaking Bad/Once Upon A Time bad guy Giancarlo Esposito are also expected to drop by the thee-day weekend.
Artists’ Alley
One fixture that is always a part of Planet Comicon is Artists Alley! While stalwarts Rick Stasi, Phil Hester, Don Rosa, Joe Staton and Todd Aaron Smith will hold court at their booths, several creators such as Jason Aaron, Dennis Hopeless, Humberto Ramos, Cullen Bunn, Freddie E. Williams II, Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner are expected to represent both DC and Marvel respectively at the convention.
Cosplayers Unite!
Each and every year, the Planet Comicon cosplayers have progressively increased their presence at the Kansas City pop culture celebration. From “Elite Supergirl” Jessica Meditz-Porter, who continues to set the standard for other Kansas City cosplayers, to the inclusion of nationally known cosplayers such as husband and wife team Abby Dark Star and Keith Zen as guests, cosplaying at Planet Comicon has become almost second nature to a majority of their guests.
