Marvel Comics has released its April 2017 catalog!
Here is my take on some of the hottest stories that might just shake the Marvel Universe to its core.
X-Men’s New Chapter
The war between the Inhumans and the X-Men is over! Now, two new groups of the X-Men are hoping to revive Professor Charles Xavier’s dream of peace amongst mutant, human, and Inhuman races. Kitty Pryde returns to the X-Men and will lead several fan-favorites into action as they take on the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in the pages of creative team Marc Guggenheim and Ardian Sayf’s X-Men Gold. Meanwhile, Cullen Bunn and Jorge Molina’s X-Men Blue will focus on the time-displaced Stan Lee/Jack Kirby team (Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman, and Angel) as they are taken under Magneto’s wings. The premiere issues of both X-Men: Gold and X-Men Blue will respectively drop on April 5 and April 12.
Scarlet Spider’s new chapter
Fans were shocked when Ben Reilly was revealed to be the Jackal in the pages of Spider-Man: The Clone Conspiracy. But, now that the Spider-Man world-changing storyline is wrapping up, many fans might wonder what will be next for the good clone gone bad. Veteran Spider-Man creators Peter David and Mark Bagley will guide the Scarlet Spider’s next moves when the first issue drops on April 26.
Eddie Brock visits Venom
Speaking of Spider-Man, one of the Wall Crawler’s greatest nemeses is expecting to make his grand return. Many 90s kids would recognize the name: “Eddie Brock.” Mr. Brock was the second host to the Venom Symbiote and he is probably the most recognizable villain in Spider-Man’s rogues’ gallery. Will Brock take back the monstrous alien from the symbiote’s new host: Lee Price? Readers will find out when issue six of Mike Costa and Gerardo Sandoval’s Venom storyline drops on April 19.
Brian Bendis’ Guardians of the Galaxy finale
Celebrated Marvel creator Brian Michael Bendis will end his run on The Guardians of the Galaxy. Over the past four years, the longtime Marvel Comics scribe transformed the team into one of Marvel Comics’ blockbuster series. The classic line-up of Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Drax, Groot, and Gamora will face their longtime nemesis, Thanos, in Bendis’ finale. Several guest artists are expected to join series artist Valero Schiti on artwork duties. You can pick up Bendis’ last Guardians issue on April 12.
Infamous Iron Man meets the Maker
True believers know about Doctor Doom’s one-sided hatred for Reed Richards has lasted for 55 years. However, the villain known as the Infamous Iron Man is about to have an unexpected reunion with his arch-rival. But, the Reed Richards that Doom is about to confront is the Maker, one of the Ultimate Universe’s greatest threats. Which bad guy will win this throwdown? Find out on April 26, when the creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev will drop the seventh issue of Infamous Iron Man.
The Red Skull War ends in Uncanny Avengers
For nearly five years, the Red Skull has possessed the brain of the X-Men’s beloved dead leader, Professor Charles Xavier. The legendary Nazi has been three steps ahead of our heroes and used Professor X’s powers to play deadly mind games with the team. Now, the Avengers Unity Squad are finally going to turn the tables on the Nazi in issue 22. But, not every Avenger may not live to see that victory. Find out who lives in the conclusion of Gerry Duggan and Pepe Larraz’s latest story arc.
