We are three months away from May, and DC Comics is preparing for kickstart fans’ summer by revealing some big shake-ups for several of their beloved franchises. Without further ado, here is my take on DC Comics’ May 2017 Solicitations.
Superman: Revenge & Suicide
Four of the Man of Steel’s greatest adversaries (Cyborg Superman, Eradicator, Metallo, and Mongul) reform the Superman Revenge Squad and targets Superman, Lois, and Jon. However, the situation gets complicated when both the Eradicator and Cyborg Superman attempt to break into Belle Reve to recruit General Zod. Can Superman diffuse the situation before Amanda Waller and the Suicide Squad get involved? Find out as writer Dan Jurgens and artist Patch Zircher present parts one and two of “Revenge” in the bi-weekly Action Comics. Part one will drop on May 10, while part two hits the shelf on May 24.
Shiva & Spoiler target Detective Comics
The Caped Crusader and his team are expected to have a rough May in the pages of Detective Comics. Lady Shiva and the League of Assassins will face off against the Batman Family in the finale of “League of Shadows” in Detective Comics #956, which drops on May 10. Meanwhile, the team’s Benedict Arnold, Stephanie Brown, plans her agenda against the team in “The Wrath of Spoiler.” Can the team convince Spoiler to drop this madness? Or will Spoiler’s new partner, the Wrath, convince her to carry out her plans? Find out on May 24, when guest writer Genevieve Valentine joins series author James Tynion IV and guest artist Carmen Carnero for Detective Comics #957.
Welcome to the Suicide Squad, General Zod!
During the first half of Rob Williams’ Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller revealed her trump card to her team: longtime Superman nemesis General Zod. Now, the renegade Kryptonian is now a member of the team! Will Amanda Waller’s secret weapon backfire? How will the team deal with their newest member? Find out when guest artists Tony S. Daniel and Sandu Florea join Rob Williams on Suicide Squad #17 (May 10) and Suicide Squad #18 (May 24).
“The Lazarus Contract” ties together Deathstroke, Teen Titans, & Titans
Deathstroke the Terminator faces off against two of his greatest rivals: The Titans and Teen Titans in an epic four-part story arc. When Slade Wilson learns about Wally West’s resurrection, he vows to use the Fastest Man Alive to bring back his son, Jericho, from the dead. Can the two teams stop their greatest foe? Find out in the pages of Titans #11 (May 10), Teen Titans #8 (May 17), Deathstroke #19 (May 24), and Teen Titans Annual: The Lazarus Contract #1 (May 31).
Wonder Woman meets Batman & Superman in “Year One.”
Legendary writer Greg Rucka is one of the few writers in the industry who has masterfully written DC Comics’ Trinity (Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman). Several guest writers and artists join Mr. Rucka and series artists Nicola Scott and Liam Sharp on Wonder Woman’s first annual, where Diana revisits her first encounters with both the Man of Steel and the Caped Crusader. Wonder Woman Annual #1 drops on May 31.
Dark Knight III: The Master Race concludes
Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello’s final issue of their maxi-series, Dark Knight III-The Master Race, will be released on May 31. The villainous Quar and his Kryptonian Army are about to conquer Earth! Can Batman and his exhausted allies stop these monsters before it is too late? Join Miller, Azzarello, and artists Andy Kubert and Klaus Janson as they unleash the finale of The Dark Knight Returns’ world.
