Jake’s Take’s Best of 2019 kicks off right now!
Up first, it is the Top 40 songs. Countless songs were released this year. However, Jake’s Take crafted a master playlist that is currently under the Spotify playlist titled “Jake’s Take’s Top 40 Songs of 2019.”
The songs that I picked out are from a diverse group of artists that range from performers that are just starting to music industry veterans. Several friends of Jake’s Take, including AJ Mitchell, Rence, Tom Wardle, Tristan Cole, and Van Alden, are sprinkled throughout this playlist.
2019 marked a massive year for Disney fans as they flocked to theatres to see the live-action adaptions of Disney’s Aladdin and Disney’s The Lion King. Both films featured original songs that were composed by Beyonce Knowles-Carter, Sir Elton John, Sir Tim Rice, and the songwriting team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Also, longtime friend Peter Hollens had the opportunity of a lifetime of reimaging Lebo M’s classic song: “He Lives in You,” with the touring cast of The Lion King.
Also, there are a few blockbuster collaborations on this list. From Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, and Chris Stapleton’s high octane “BLOW” to Kygo’s reimaging of the late Whitney Houston’s 1991 cover of “Higher Love,” 2019 would go down as an exciting year for collaborations. Finally, this list would not be completed without 2019’s significant hit: “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus. Variety reported that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) that “Old Town Road” is diamond certified as the single sold 10 million units. The song’s official movie that features cameos from Chris Rock, Diplo, and Vince Staples has been viewed nearly 380 million times on YouTube.
