Jake’s Take’s Book Recommendations-Summer 2018 Edition

I love reading! If you visit my Instagram channel, you will find numerous photos of stacked books that showcases my ferocious reading ability and some of my literary conquests.  However, I have not done an actual book recommendation post…until now!

Here are several books that I strongly recommend that you should pick up at either your Barnes & Noble or local bookstore.

You Do You by Sarah Knight

I am a huge fan of Sarah Knight’s No F*cks Given guides! Through a combination of excellent advice and superb snarky comments, Knight delivers another home run with her latest title: You Do You. In this book, Knight gives readers insight into why it is okay to be selfish and teaches readers how to be “difficult.”

No Man’s Land by David Baldacci

Every time, I pick up a David Baldacci book, I always immerse myself into his different universes.  No Man’s Land focuses on Special Agent John Puller and how reopening his mother’s disappearance puts him in grave danger from the US government.  His search will make him cross paths with Paul Rogers, who seeks revenge on the people who put him away in prison for ten years.

How to Win Friends & Influence People in the Digital Age by Dale Carnegie

My father, Matthew, and my uncle, Josh, have highly recommended that I checked out this book. There have been multiple incarnations of the book have been published. However, I would recommend the 2012 edition called How to Win Friends & Influence People in the Digital Age. This book will teach readers on how to communicate with people with “diplomacy and tact,” while building their “solid network.”

Today Matters: 12 Daily Practices to Guarantee Tomorrow’s Success by John C. Maxwell

Today Matters turned 14 years old this year! In this book, leadership expert John C. Maxwell emphasized 12 daily practices that would help readers achieve success. Among the topics that Maxwell talked about in Today Matters include finding inner peace, how to hold an advantage and exercise options.

Truth or Die by James Patterson & Howard Roughnan

Truth or Die focuses on attorney Trevor Mann and his relationship with his girlfriend, Claire Parker. However, once Claire disappears, Trevor finds a story that she worked on that could change the way the American public sees the espionage world. Truth or Die is a great page turner and Patterson fans will not be disappointed.

Letters from Leaders: Personal Advice for Tomorrow’s Leaders from the World’s Most Influential People by Henry O. Dormann

The late Henry Dormann, who served as the chairman and editor-in-chief for LEADERS magazine, gathered a plethora of letters from world leaders. The goal of his book was to inspire the next generation of leaders through pieces of advice such as leadership, goal achievement, public service, and life journeys.  Among the people that were involved in this book were five US Presidents, the Dalai Lama, and the late Muhammad Ali.

Like A Virgin: Secrets They Won’t Teach You at Business School by Sir Richard Branson

Six years ago, Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson published a book that focused on sharing his insight on several lessons that he learned throughout his career. Some pieces of advice focus on why he did not go to business school and how he started several of his iconic ventures such as Virgin Records and Virgin Atlantic.

The President is Missing by Bill Clinton & James Patterson

President Bill Clinton teamed up with James Patterson to write a superb page-turner thriller.  In The President is Missing, President Jonathan Duncan must save the entire United States from the deadly “Dark Ages” virus.  President Duncan must also figure out which one of his closest allies might have leaked state secrets to the terrorists.  This book is an excellent read, and readers would have to fight the urge of putting it down.
