Artists to Watch:
Jake’s Take’s Artists to Watch is back! Here are some of the recording artists and bands that are have the potential to dominate the music industry.
HELP EP by Morgan Saint
Epic Records rising star Morgan Saint released her second extended play: HELP! The Long Island native has received praise from many media organizations, including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Time. While I was listening to this EP, I believe that Morgan has the potential to be in the same league as Halsey and Lana Del Rey. HELP showcases the darker side of the alternative pop music genre. There are several top-notch songs, such as the title track and “THIS CITY.” I am looking forward to hearing more from Morgan Saint in the future. B+
Tracks to Download: “HELP,” “KEEP ON HANGING ON,” “THIS CITY,” & “I DREAMT THAT I KNEW YOU.”
“True” by Gabe Lustman
It has been a while since I have from singer-songwriter Gabe Lustman. The first time I heard his voice when he recorded with Jake’s Take friend James “Simmy” Sismanes in 2012. I am surprised that a major record label has not given him a chance. When I listened to “True,” Gabe’s voice reminded me of a blend of Justin Timberlake and Usher. Also, kudos to producer Shawn Ski Beats, I believe that “True” is capable of dominating radio charts and streaming lists. A-
“Memories” by Philmon Lee
LaGrange, Georgia native Philmon Lee just had a breakout moment. The Epic Records-signed recording artist dropped his music video from his latest single: “Memories.” When the song was released earlier this year, I was immediately captivated by Philmon’s artistry and vocal range. I hope that this song propels him to the top of several charts on both radio and music streaming services. A
“Checkered Vans” by Reece Ratcliff
Nashville-based indie artist Reece Ratcliff dropped his new single: “Checkered Vans.” I loved this song from the first note. The arrangement brought a smile to my face. “Checkered Vans” is a good pick-me-up song for anyone who had a rough week. Reece reminds me of a lot of both Charlie Puth and Jake’s Take friend AJ Mitchell. Like them, I hope that Reece finds success in the music industry. B+
“Always” by Tia Gostelow featuring Holy Holy
Australian singer Tia Gostelow rounds out this edition of Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews. She gaining lots of traction thanks to praising from Clash, Rolling Stone, and Wonderland Magazine. She released her latest single: “Always,” and I was very impressed with the synth-pop sound. Tia’s hypnotic vocals raise the song new heights, plus the song also showcases the potential for featured artists Holy Holy (Oscar Dawson and Timothy Carroll). Carroll sang with Tia, while Oscar Dawson handled the production duties. I hope that more Americans get the chance to hear these respective artists in the future. B+
