We are nearly halfway through the sophomore season of FOX’s The Masked Singer. The show has delivered some surprising reveals. From unmasking Ninja as Ice Cream and Dr. Drew as the Eagle to Sherri Shepherd as the Penguin to Kelly Osbourne as the Ladybug, this season of The Masked Singer is becoming unpredictable to guess which celebrities are under these elaborate costumes.
Tonight, one of last year’s guest panelists (and Ken Jeong’s Community colleague), Joel McHale returned to the Masked Singer panel as four fan-favorites returned for a chance to stay in the competition. Which performers left the Masked Singer panel (guest Joel McHale, Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy) scratching their heads? Who needed host Nick Cannon to help them unmask? Read on to find out!
As Nick made his noteworthy entrance and introduced the audience to guest panelist Joel McHale, it was time to get down to business! The Flamingo introduced the audience to her home, which she introduced the audience to her four friends. Tonight, she tackled The Flower…I mean Patti LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade.” It was definitely one of the best performances of the season. I thought I heard Fantasia or Naya River’s voice, but I could be wrong. Nicole declared that the Flamingo came to win, while Robin praised her growth. During the commentary, the Flamingo broke down and stated that The Masked Singer experience made her a better performance. The panel guessed that either The Real’s Adrienne Bailon, Bella Thorne, Fantasia or Jillian Michaels were under the mask.
Before the Leopard Mask was able to order flowers, he was called to the Masked Singer stage. He revealed that he mastered the catwalk and had an Australian flag in his pre-performance package. Tonight, he sang Earth, Wind and Fire’s “September,” which gave me chills and I still believe that it is Seal behind the mask. Ken called the Leopard “the master of theatrics,” while the Leopard revealed that his kids would be shocked when he is unmasked. The panel thought it was Alec Baldwin, Donald Glover, Jamie Foxx, and Seal!
The Masked Singer panel and the audience voted for the Flamingo to advance to the next round. Meaning the Leopard Mask would have to face off in tonight’s smackdown! As the Leopard Mask left the stage, the Flower Mask performed. In her pre-performance mask, she showcased a disco ball and revealed a history with the Rolling Stones. Tonight, she sang Heart’s “Alone” and delivered a beautiful cover. The Flower is 1000-percent Patti LaBelle! Robin said that her execution was like a jazz singer. The panel guessed that the Flower Mask was either Patti Labelle, Barbra Streisand, or Bjork.
The Rottweiler countered with his performance if Bruno Mars’ “Grenade.” He revealed that he was a platinum recording artist and loved boxing. From the first note, I knew that was one of my all-time favorite American Idol alums under the mask: Chris Daughtry. I recognized that tone for the past couple of weeks and I hoped that the Masked Singer panelists would put the pieces together. The panelists thought it was Gavin Rossdale, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mario Lopez, and Darren Criss under the mask.
Once again, it was time for the results. In a shocking turn of events, the Rottweiler was safe from elimination. However, the Flower Mask was in danger of being eliminated. I hated seeing both the Leopard Mask and the Flower Mask in the Masked Singer smackdown. The Leopard sang the Pussycat Dolls’ “Don’t Cha,” a song that Nicole immediately approved. Meanwhile, the Flower Mask covered Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger.” I was a little disappointed that she did not go all out.
Jenny revealed that this would be the hardest Masked Singer result in show history. After everyone voted, it was the Flower’s turn to say goodbye! The panel were almost unanimous with their deductions: Patti LaBelle. Ken stuck by Bjork, while Joel McHale guessed Dionne Warwick. Jenny, Nicole, Robin, and I were right, PATTI LABELLE was Flower Mask!
The Masked Singer will be back after a Thanksgiving break. The next episode will air on December 4, 2019.
