After a week off due to the World Series, The Masked Singer’s tenth anniversary season shifted into turbo!
The FOX undercover celebrity singing competition returned to celebrate one-hit wonders! Tonight, a new group of contenders (Anteater, Candelabra, Donut, and Hibiscus) performed for their chance to perform in the Group C finale. Which performer was forced to unmask? Did any panelists (Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg) correctly deduce the eliminated singer’s identity? Who joined Billie Jean King, Michael Rappaport, Tom Sandoval, and Tyler Posey in the Season 10 eliminated club? Read on to find out!
After Nick Cannon and the panelists made their entrances to “Who Let the Dogs Out,” the Donut Mask made their presence known. His pre-performance package included a sheriff’s badge, cowboy boots, and a “bow and arrow.” When the Donut sang “More Than a Feeling,” I heard Sir Tom Jones’ legendary voice! Jenny suggested that Donut was an icon and a music legend. She stated after thinking of “What’s New, Pussycat?” and “She’s a Lady,” she saw the bow and arrow clue, which made her feel of the song: “Cupid.” Nicole called Donut’s Voice – “a classic record,” while the Men in Black revealed that “How Bizarre” was connected to the pastry-wearing performer. Jenny suggested that Donut was an icon and a music legend. She stated after thinking of “What’s New, Pussycat?” and “She’s a Lady” plus Jenny saw the bow and arrow clue, which made her think of the song: “Cupid.” All three songs lead her to Sir Tom Jones. All three songs lead her to Sir Tom Jones, and I agree with her and Robin, who also suggested the singer!
Hibiscus Mask strutted across the Masked Singer stage. Her pre-performance package contained a gingerbread house, a first aid kit, a photo of Sharon Stone, and worked with David Bowie and Sir Elton John. She sang “It’s Raining Men,” and I was confused by her voice. Jenny praised Hibiscus for slaying the performance and was connected with “I’m Too Sexy” by revealing her pageant pass. Jenny guessed Countess LuAnn, while Ken suggested Bonnie Hunt. Finally, Robin thought it was Janice Dickinson.
Anteater Mask was the third Group C performer to grace The Masked Singer stage and walked out to “Achy Breaky Heart.” His pre-performance package included an electric guitar, a yacht, and an angel. The Anteater gave me goosebumps when he covered Marc Cohn’s “Walking in Memphis.” I loved his bluesy voice; he might have been a disciple of the late Joe Cocker. His single was “Somebody’s Watching Me” and Anteater revealed that he performed in front of 40 percent of the entire world. Ken suggested Rick Springfield, while Jenny added John Mellencamp into the mix. Nicole concluded by guessing Bryan Adams.
Candelabra was the final masked performer that sang tonight. Her pre-performance package included a FaceTime session with Kevin Hart, a butterfly, the state of California, and a present from “Santa’s Naughty List.” She sang “1 Thing,” and I immediately gravitated to Monica. Nicole proclaimed her “superstar,” and the Men in Black suggested she is connected to “Two Princes” and claimed herself – a fiery princess. Ken’s original guess of Candelabra was Nick Cannon’s baby mama and the Queen of Christmas – Mariah Carey – which led to many groans. However, he changed to a more realistic guess – Regina Hall. Nicole suggested Brandy, while Robin added Anika Noni Rose into the mix.
The Masked Singer audience and panel voted Anteater and Hibiscus into the Smackdown. Tonight, they sang Toni Basil’s “Hey Mickey,” which took me back to my Bar Mitzvah party. I loved the rock version and clearly Anteater won. Which meant that we had to say “Goodbye” to Hibiscus Mask. Robin doubled down his guess of Janice Dickinson, while Nicole suggested Hannah Waddingham. Ken changed his guess to Kim Cattrall and Jenny confirmed it was Countess Luann and JENNY WAS CORRECT!
