The Masked Singer: Season Nine entered a DeLorean and returned to when Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, and Whitney Houston ruled the airwaves. That’s right; it is the 1980s night!
Tonight, three new competitors (Doll, Moose, and Scorpio) entered the competition to join the California Rolls and Macaw in the Season Nine quarterfinals! Which performer stole the show and advanced to the next round? Which two newcomers were forced to unmask? Did the panel (Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg) correctly deduce the eliminated performers’ true identities? Read on to find out!
Young MC opened the show with “Bust a Move,” and Jenny crowd-surfed. Once Nick reminded the panel that the Ding Dong Keep it On Bell is back, Doll Mask made its way to the Masked Singer stage. The pre-performance clue package contained birdcages, a house full of animals, a Playbill, and a “Hairspray” bottle. He sang “Don’t You Forget About Me,” I instantly recognized him as Dee Snider. Robin loved that the Doll worked the crowd. Erik Estrada delivered the first clue of the evening; he wrote a name: “Ghostwriter.” Robin guessed Gene Simmons, while Jenny thought of a member of Mötley Crüe. Ken got booed as he suggested Donnie Wahlberg (sitting in the audience). Nicole ended the round with Sebastian Bach.
Scorpio Mask sashayed their way onto the stage. The pre-performance package clues contained “Wall Street,” sports, a designer, and known as a “villain.” She sang Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” and originally, I thought of Cameron Diaz, but when I saw the splits, I immediately thought of Betsey Johnson. The clue was the Sprinkler dance move. Jenny thought of Lisa Rinna or Denise Richards, while Ken got booed for Heidi Klum.
The Moose was already on stage when Masked Singer returned from the commercial break. His pre-performance package had a sitcom vibe from him, a letterman jacket, a Christmas present from Santa, and more. He sang “The Power of Love,” I immediately thought of Tim Allen, and Robin loved Moose’s grit in his voice. Guest star Charlene Tilton delivered the last clue of the evening: an “acceptance speech” envelope. Robin thought of the entire Cheers men cast before settling on Jon Lovitz. Ken suggested it was John Goodman, while Nicole guessed Ed O’Neill.
After the Masked Singer audience voted, the Moose was sent packing! Robin Thicke stood by his guess of Jon Lovitz, while Ken also doubled down on his guess of John Goodman, and Nicole also doubled down on her guess of Ed O’Neill. Finally, Jenny suggested Cheers legend, George Wendt. Once again, JENNY WAS RIGHT! GEORGE WENDT WAS THE MOOSE!
Scorpio and Doll faced off in this week’s Battle Royale with Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like a Wolf.” I still could not get Scorpio’s voice, but Doll Mask (Dee Snider) rocked his version and won the battle. The Masked Singer panel advanced the Doll to Movie Night! As the 1980s guest stars exited the stage, Jenny guessed Denise Richards, while Robin Thicke suggested Lisa Rinna. Ken doubled down his guess of Heidi Klum, and Nicole guessed Willa Ford. Selling Sunset star Christine Quinn was SCORPIO!
