The Masked Singer: Season Five is in week two!
This time, it was Group B’s turn to take the stage. Tonight, Black Swan, Chameleon, Grandpa Monster, Phoenix, and Piglet debuted the FOX singing competition’s stage. Who showcased their potential to join Monster (T-Pain), the Fox (Wayne Brady), Night Angel (Kandi Burruss), and the Sun (LeAnn Rimes) in the winners’ circle? Which performer joined the Snail (Kermit the Frog) in the elimination club?
Also, did Cluedle-Doo derail the show with red herrings or handed out valuable clues? Plus, after failing to guess the Snail’s true identity, did the Masked Singer panel (Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg) correctly deduced the eliminated performer’s identity? Read on to find out!
After guest host Niecy Nash’s entrance, it was time to get down to business. The Black Swan (Cluedle-Doo stated that she covered a monster) was the first performer to strut her stuff to the Masked Singer stage. In her pre-performance package, we saw a wanted poster, the number five, a red “X,” and a red bishop. She sang Heart’s “Barracuda,” and I immediately jumped to Leona Lewis because she is an X Factor UK winner. Robin called her a “badass.” After the panel made their first impression guesses, Ken thought it was The Queen’s Gambit star Anna Taylor-Joy, and Jenny thought it was Camilla Cabello. Nicole agreed with me on Leona Lewis. Jenny predicted that Black Swan could go all the way to the finals.
Cluedle-Doo mentioned that the next Masked Singer performer, Grandpa Monster, had trained for battle before. In their pre-performance package, Grandpa Monster’s clues contained the number six in football formation and numbers. It also included got a spider-web and a volleyball. They sang Lou Bega’s “Mambo No. 5” and his voice was younger! So I thought this guy could be Jordan Fisher. Once the panel wrote their first impression guesses, Robin guessed Johnny Manziel, while Jenny thought of wrestler and The Challenge alum the Miz.
As Cluedle-Doo warned that the Wild Cards were coming to the Masked Singer stage, he also revealed that the Chameleon had a history with “precious gemstones.” He admitted that he had a famous father in his pre-performance package, was a DJ, and video games. He performed Nelly’s “Ride with Me,” and I had no idea who this guy is! Jenny stated that she loved the performance. After the panel handed in their first impression guesses, Ken guessed Dwight Howard. Meanwhile, Robin Thicke thought Chameleon was Redfoo. Nicole also guessed Nick Cannon.
Cluedle-Doo revealed that the Phoenix Mask went 76 mph. The Phoenix said that they appeared on several magazine covers, a race car, and ballet slippers. Phoenix sang Kesha’s “Don’t Stop,” and I immediately gravitated towards Caitlyn Jenner. Nicole thought it was Jonathan Van Ness. Meanwhile, Jenny thought it was Caitlyn Jenner, and Ken stated RuPaul.
After Ken opened up a booster seat from Nick, Piglet closed out the Group B premiere. The Masked Singer hopeful walked out to Justin Bieber’s “Yummy” and hugged Niecy Nash. The pre-package performance had a Bachelor themed clue package, a pink question mark, and a red rose. He sang Dan + Shay’s “Speechless,” and I thought it was Nick Lachey. As Piglet made his way to the stage, Cluedle-Doo revealed that he remains calm under the heat, and I gravitated towards the Reality TV star. Ken thought it was Adam Lambert, and Nicole thought it was Charlie Puth (because he dated Bella Thorne).
The Phoenix became Group B’s first departure. Robin stood by his guess of LaVerne Cox, while Nicole thought Phoenix was Jonathan Van Ness. Ken decided to change his guess to RuPaul, while Jenny stood by her guess of Caitlyn Jenner. And she (and I) was right, CAITLYN JENNER was the PHOENIX!
Next week, the game-changing Wild Card performers make their Masked Singer debuts!
