The Masked Singer: Season Five Quarterfinals are here!
After weeks of intense competition, only five performers remain. Tonight, Black Swan, Chameleon, Piglet, the Russian Dolls, and Yeti faced off. Which performers advanced to the Season Five Semifinals? Which performer was forced to join Caitlyn Jenner, Logan Paul, Tamera Mowry-Housley, and Tyrese Gibson in the Season Five elimination club?
How did Cluedle-Doo hijack the competition? Did we get closer to learn his true identity? Meanwhile, did our panelists (Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg) corrected deduced the eliminated Masked Singer’s true identity?
Read on to find out!
After Nick Cannon made his entrance, guest panelist (and my fellow Kansas Citian) actor Rob Riggle joined the panel. The Russian Dolls paid homage to Sir Elton John for their quarterfinals performance with the classic “I’m Still Standing. It’s been long established that this trio is rock band Hanson and once again, the group established powerful vocal harmonies that gave me chills. For their Super Clue, the trio revealed that they were a super fan of “Weird Al” Yankovic. Rob Riggle thought the Russian Dolls were Devo, while Ken Jeong thought it was Barenaked Ladies. Meanwhile, Nicole stood by her guess of Hanson (she’s right!).
Black Swan was the second Masked Singer performer to take the stage. The iconic Cher was the Black Swan’s celebrity role model. Tonight, she sang Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.” While I was not a fan of the arrangement, I wanted to see Black Swan advance to the semifinals based on her previous body of work. The Black Swan gave both Jenny and Nicole goosebumps. Ken thought the Black Swan was Dua Lipa. Meanwhile, Robin Thicke thought it was Normani.
The Piglet watched the first season of the show with his little piglet. He revealed that he is a massive fan of Bruce Willis. Tonight, he sang Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” and started by singing opera. Nick Lachey did an impeccable job with this performance, and I genuinely believe that he secured his place in the finale. Jenny thought it was Justin Timberlake, while Ken guessed Piglet was Jeremy Renner. However, Robin jumped on the Nick Lachey train! (He’s right)
After Rob Riggle stole Ken’s thunder, the Yeti returned to The Masked Singer stage. The final Wild Card performer revealed that he is a Diddy superfan and that the music producer helped him get to the music world’s top. I got chills as Yeti sang Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road.” Nicole called the performance “beautiful.” Robin thought Yeti was Channing Tatum. Meanwhile, Ken thought Twista was the Snowman. However, Jenny thought it was Ne-Yo. But Cluedle-Doo crashed the party and revealed that they had until next week to figure out his true identity.
Chameleon was the final performer of the evening. He revealed that his personal superstar hero was Jackie Chan before performing Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams’ “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” In all honesty, Chameleon has grown on me, and I am impressed by Wiz Khalifa, but it was time for him to go home. Nicole compared it to the MTV Movie Awards. Nicole thought it was Snoop Dogg, but Ken thought it was Young Thug.
Once the panel and Masked Singer superfans voted, we had to say goodbye to The Russian Dolls! (WOW!!) After retrieving the panel’s first impression guess, Nicole changed her guess from the cast of Glee and altered it to Hanson! Robin’s first impression guess was the Black Eyed Peas and changed it to Sugarland. Jenny changed her guess from Boyz II Men and joined Nicole on the Hanson train. Ken went back to his initial guess of the Jonas Brothers. Rob decided to change his guess from Devo to Hanson.
It turned out that Jenny, Nicole, and Rob were right – the Russian Dolls were Hanson!!!
Next week, the Season Five Final 4 faced off in the Quarterfinals!
