The Masked Singer launched its seventh season! This time, our undercover celebrity performers are divided into three groups: the Good, the Bad, and the Cuddly! Tonight, we met Season Seven’s Group A (Cyclops, Firefly, McTerrier, Ram, and Thingamabob). Which performers soared? Which performer was forced to unmask on night one of the competition? Did any members of the show’s panel (Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg) correctly deduce the eliminated celebrity’s identity? Read on to find out!
After Nick Cannon made his dramatic entrance and introduced the Good, the Bad, and the Cuddly to the audience and the judges was time to get down to business. Team Cuddly’s Thingamabob kicked off the new Masked Singer season. In his pre-performance package, Thingamabob revealed “Hotel California,” “the bulldog with fishing equipment,” and “save the Thingamabob.” He sang Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive.” I think this is my fellow Kansas City native – David Cook! Jenny called the performance – “out of control amazing.” Ken guessed Metallica’s James Hetfield, while Jenny suggested Chris Jericho. However, Robin thought it was Terrell Owens.
Team Good selected the McTerrier to be their representative for this round. His pre-performance package featured the Terry Towel, a golden record, and the ax. After playing the drums, he sang Loverboy’s “Working for the Weekend.” Many media outlets such as Entertainment Weekly reported that the McTerrier lost his mask after his performance. The judges and the audience were in disbelief as the panicked celebrity shouted: “What do I do?” The panelists turned around as a stagehand rushed out to the stage and put his mask back on. Nick and Jenny called the performance – ‘Masked Singer’ history. Ken thought it was Mike Myers. However, Nicole guessed Ewan McGregor, and Robin added Flea to the guess list.
Cyclops was the first performer to represent Team Bad. The pre-performance package featured a cowboy hat, a comic book, and was typecasted as a villain. He sang Creed’s “My Sacrifice.” Okay, I need to find another guess for Thingamabob because I thought Cyclops is David Cook. Jenny thought it was William Zappa due to his ties to Cobra Kai, while Nicole thought it was Danny McBride. Meanwhile, Robin thought it was Ridiculousness host Rob Dyrdek.
Team Good sent out Firefly to be their last representative of the evening. Firefly revealed that she worked with Tyler Perry, the Statue of Liberty, and the Apollo Theatre. She sang Chaka Khan’s “Ain’t Nobody.” However, she had a health emergency during the performance. As the show’s medic examined her, Team Bad sent the Ram to perform!
The Ram revealed that he was into theatre, a piggy bank, and can cut hair. He sang: Cheap Trick’s “I Want You to Want Me.” In all honesty, I do not know who is behind the mask. However, he does have a great voice and could run this competition. Ken thought this was Matthew Stafford, while Robin thought it was Payton Manning.
The Masked Singer: Season Seven premiere ended as Firefly returned to perform. She sang Miss Monster (Chaka Khan)’s “Ain’t Nobody.” She delivered the best vocal of the night, and I think she is Brandy. Robin praised her professionalism and called it – “the best performance of the night.” Firefly Mask revealed that she performed all her life. Ken guessed Alicia Keys, while Jenny thought it was either Aisha Tyler or Monica.
After the panel and audience voted, McTerrier headed home! Ken Jeong thought it was Mike Myers, while Robin Thicke thought the performer was Flea. Nicole guessed Ewan McGregor and Jenny added Jeff Ross into the mix. McTerrier was Duff Goldman!
Next week, Masked Singer: Season Seven continues!
