Hundreds of music fans spent their afternoon and evening outside in the Kansas City heat to listen to some of the rising stars and established singer-songwriters in the music industry rock out Starlight Theater.
Local Kansas City band the Strive kicked off the event with an energetic set that included their brand new single: “Sleepless” and their cover of summer hit: “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen. The five-piece pop rock band had a lot of energy and took time to meet dozens of concertgoers after their set was done. This author has a feeling that this appearance at Red, White and Boom 2012 will be a start of many more appearances to come.
One of the best acts that performed at Red, White and Boom was Neon Hitch. The British singer-songwriter sang several of her hits from her upcoming studio album: Beg, Borrow and Steal and also performed several bits of “Get Yourself Back Home,” her successful collaboration with Gym Class Heroes. By the end of her set, Neon leaped from the stage and threw an impromptu dance party with the audience, while performing “Love U Betta.”
X Factor alum Chris Rene made his Kansas City debut at the event as many of his fans were happy to see hear him perform live. He led a sing along of his hit: “Young Homie” and debuted his new single: “Trouble,” which will drop on June 26. Chris sounded great and his attitude lifted the spirits of the sweat-drenched crowd.
Andy Grammer’s fans were riled up when he first made his first of many appearances of the night. The multi-talented singer performed material from his self-titled debut album including the highly successful singles: “Keep Your Head Up” and “Fine By Me.”
One of the night’s biggest hits was Karmin’s set. Engaged couple Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan have had over 200 million views on YouTube as they covered R&B and rap songs. They showcased their incredible talent on the Red, White and Boom stage and had the audience singing along when performed their signature single: “Brokenhearted.”
The co-headliners of the show were Colbie Caillat and Gavin DeGraw. Both of these artists produced incredible moments. From Colbie’s duet with Andy Grammer on her hit: “Lucky” to Gavin’s opening performance, both of them captured the hearts of the numerous concertgoers and helped made Mix 93.3’s Red, White and Boom a successful concert event.
