Welcome to another exciting edition of New Music Releases!
This week’s theme is Girl Power! From powerful rockers to future superstars-in-training, several of these artists prove that the music industry is “A Woman’s World.”
24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault by Stevie Nicks
To me, Stevie Nicks is the Queen of Rock! Her voice is so timeless and classic that she is currently capturing the hearts of veteran and new fans with both the Fleetwood Mac’s The Show Must Go On Tour and her latest studio album: 24 Karat Gold-Songs from the Vault. Each track is like breathing pixie dust and flying to music nirvana. The guitar licks from longtime collaborators Waddy Wachtel and David A. Stewart are perfection and Benmont Tench’s keyboards on “Lady” will move listeners. All and all, 24 Karat Gold is a powerful album and is my Album of The Week! A+

It’s About Us by Alex & Sierra
It has been almost a whole year since Alex & Sierra received The X Factor USA’s final winners crown! The show is no more and with the growing exception of Fifth Harmony, most of The X Factor USA alums are not active in the public eye or active in the music scene. Alex & Sierra are superb songwriters and storytellers, but I am having a hard time connecting with them. Yes, they wrote a bulk of the album…which should be commended, but at the same time…this album did not leave me jumping up and down and wanting to buy it! C

This is M.E. by Melissa Etheridge
One record that is constantly on my playlist and the Barnes and Noble playlist is Melissa Etheridge’s 12th studio album! The Grammy-winning rocker brought a lot of heart and soul into her 11 tracks and she never makes the listener bored. Tracks such as “Monster” and “Ain’t That Bad” are toe-tappers, while “Take My Number” will tug at heartstrings. This is M.E. will probably be one of Ms. Etheridge’s best albums of the 2010s and she has a lot to live up with her next album. A-

“Yellow Flicker Beat” by Lorde
Over the past two years, New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde has catapulted to superstar success with her ear candy-like songs such as “Royals” and “Team.” Now, the Grammy winner has returned with an anthem for part one of The Hunger Games-Mockingjay! Lorde’s latest anthem will make listeners daydream of Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson channel their inner warrior mode as they battle to save Panem from President Snow. B
