New Music Reviews-Part Two: The Singles-Week of October 22, 2012
By: Jacob Elyachar
Part two of New Music Reviews focuses on new singles from 50 Cent, Keyshia Cole, Drew Six, Kelly Clarkson and a duet from Chris Mann and his Voice mentor: Christina Aguilera.
First Date (feat. Too $hort) by 50 Cent
When 50 Cent released “New Day” earlier this year, it was very inspiring and had two incredible cameos from Alicia Keys and Dr. Dre. This author thought that if 50 Cent could have released an album full of that material, he could have won me over as a critic. Unfortunately, “First Date” is too sloppy and the combination of 50 Cent and Too $hort does not work out for me. D-

Trust and Believe by Keyshia Cole
“Trust and Believe” is one of the best R&B ballards that this author has heard this year. The lyrics are haunting and this is one of Keyshia’s best vocal performances since her 2007 hit “Heaven Sent.” If this song does not get nominated for an American Music Award or a Grammy, there is no justice. We Choose Livin’ (featuring Sarah Allison Turner) by Drew Six
Country artist Drew Six recently released a new song “We Choose Livin’” that is dedicated to the Young Variety Group of Kansas City. This single is what we should be hearing on the radio because the lyrics will move the listener and the vocal harmonies between Drew and Sarah Allison Turner are impeccable. A
Proceeds of “We Choose Livin'” will be donated to the Young Variety Group of Kansas City. Drew originally performed the song with Danielle during the 2012 Young Variety event. To see this moving performance, click here: http://youtu.be/BM5zhBNF8js
Catch My Breath by Kelly Clarkson
“Catch My Breath” is a perfect song to summarize her 10 years in the music industry. Longtime fans of the original American Idol will enjoy listening to this song because it shows why music lovers have fallen in love with Kelly Clarkson over the years. Her vocals are superb and this pop rock/Europop fusion single will be rocking clubs everywhere soon. A
This new single is to prep everyone for Kelly Clarkson’s first greatest hits album: “Greatest Hits-Chapter One” which will drop in November: http://youtu.be/sRuroUDWIVQ
The Blower’s Daughter by Chris Mann and Christina Aguilera
Damien Rice’s “The Blower’s Daughter” gets a powerful vocal makeover thanks to the second season Voice finalist and his mentor: the one and only Christina Aguilera. While I admit that I was not a huge fan of Mann during his Voice run, he has proven me wrong and has delivered a solid vocal performance that perfectly previews what music lovers are going to experience next week when his debut album Roads is released.
