Artists to Watch
Jake’s Take’s Artists to Watch is back! Here are several recording artists that are looking to shake up the music industry.
Bright Nowhere by Kate Schutt
New York City-based singer-songwriter Kate Schutt released her third album: Bright Nowhere. She dedicated this album to her late mother, who passed away after her five-year battle with ovarian cancer. Emmy-winning producer and arranger Rob Mounsey did a spectacular job bringing Kate’s vision to fruition. Music lovers would be impressed with Kate’s superb songwriting and musicianship and that she has a bright future in the pop-jazz genre. A+
Tracks to Download: “Mothers,” “You More Than Me,” “Fight the Good Fight,” “Nothing I Won’t Bear,” “Victory On The Road to Defeat,” & “Roll the Stone Back.”
“Muevete” by Amara La Negra featuring Topo La Maskara
Love & Hip-Hop: Miami star Amara La Negra teamed up with fellow Dominican creative Topo La Maskara for the first club-worthy track of the year. “Muevete” has killer hooks, and Amara’s beats are superb. “Muevete” will make you want to dance, and after all we have been through, we deserve to dance. “All In” by Brendan Scott Friel
When music lovers pick up singer-songwriter Brendan Scott Friel’s “All In,” they would be instantly transported to his beautiful paradise. The Windsor, Ontario, Canada-based artist’s production perfectly weaves guitar licks, drums, and synths together in a fantastic way that would put a smile on listeners’ faces. B+
“Her” by Jordan McGraw
After supporting Bebe Rexha and the Jonas Brothers on tours, rising pop artist Jordan McGraw is stepping into the spotlight. When I first listened to “Her,” I was immediately impressed by the synth-crafted production. Jordan McGraw co-wrote this banger with Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, Ross Golan, and the Space Primates. I could see “Her” being a future contender for 2021’s Song of the Summer. A
“Somebody Else” by Nova Rose
Montreal-based singer-songwriter Nova Rose returns to Jake’s Take’s Artists to Watch for the second time this month. When I heard “Somebody Else” for the first time, it reminded me to the first time I heard Ellie Goulding’s “Lights” and “Anything Could Happen.” Just like Ellie Goulding, I believe Nova Rose fits perfectly in the dream pop world. “Smaller” by Sleepy Jean
Sleepy Jean rounds out this edition of Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews. The Saint Catharines, Ontario-based singer-songwriter, released her first single: “Smaller.” The song reminds me of hearing Norah Jones’s “Don’t Know Why” when the three-time Grammy-winning record was released nearly 20 years ago. Sleepy Jean has superb vocals, and the jazz arrangement was splendid. Sleepy Jean has a bright future ahead of her. A-
