Welcome to the second Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews of 2022! We have a lot of great music to unpack, so let’s get this party started.
Macon by Jason Aldean
Near the end of 2021, country music superstar Jason Aldean released part one of his tenth studio album: Macon. Part two of his album, Georgia, is expected to drop sometime later this year. Macon features 15 tracks that include five recorded live songs, nine original songs, and a cover track – Bryan Adams’ “Heaven.” The “She’s Country” singer turned to some of country music’s top songwriters such as Brantley Gilbert, Lydia Vaughn, Michael Ray, Morgan Wallen, and Neal Thrasher to co-pen his tracks. Meanwhile, he recorded another impeccable duet with another American Idol champion: Carrie Underwood – the song: “If I Didn’t Love You.” While I am not a fan of the live track inclusions, I thought Macon was one of Jason Aldean’s best albums yet. Tracks to Download: “Heaven,” “Over You Again,” “Small Town Small,” & “If I Didn’t Love You.”
“Party, Humo Y Alcohol” by CNCO
Latin superstars CNCO (Richard Camacho, Erick Brian Colón, Christopher Vélez, and Zabdiel De Jesús) released their first single of 2022! The quartet teamed up Hv and Kairo La Sinfonia for “Party, Humo Y Alcohol.” It is a superb ode to a woman who broke free of an abysmal relationship. This excellent song combines Pop Latino with EDM in a brilliant way. I cannot wait to see what they have in store for 2022! A-
“Guitar Guy” by Mayer Malik
Jake’s Take friend Mayer Malik released his first song of 2022: “Guitar Guy.” Using his guitar as a guide, Mayer showcased listeners a peek inside his universe. “Guitar Guy” is a mesmerizing song that combines passion and humor – I chuckled when Mayer sang: “Welcome to lyric land; you must be this tall to ride.” B+
“Y’all Means All” by Miranda Lambert
For Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot’s sixth season, the second incarnation of the Fab Five and the show’s production team brought in a superstar to write the theme song. The Today Show reported that the team tasked Miranda Lambert with writing the track. “The House That Built Me” singer-songwriter co-wrote the song with friends Luke Dick and Shane McNally. “Y’all Means All” is a massive step for both the country music industry and the LGBTQ group! I hope to see other established country music stars co-pen and release songs that are LGBTQ-friendly. Well done, Miranda, Luke, and Shane! A-
