Artists to Watch:
Jake’s Take’s Artists to Watch makes its triumphant return for the first time in 2022! Here are some of artists and bands that could shake up the music industry!
Mock Twang by Buster Baer
Los Angeles native Buster Baer recently released his debut EP: Mock Twang. When I listened to his extended play, I noticed the numerous influences sprinkled throughout the album, including classic rock stylings of the Beach Boys, the latter Beatles era, and a twist of Chicago. I rather listen to this type of music over today’s auto-tune offerings. Well done, Buster! B+
Tracks to Download: “Sleepy Baby,” “Gone Fishin’,” & “ In His Image.”
Daybreak by The Lagoons
Los Angeles-raised duo The Lagoons released a new album: Daybreak. The Lagoons arethe brainchild of brothers Ryan and Joey Selan. I was impressed by both brothers’ production and musicianship levels. Daybreak brilliantly showcases their potential to dominate the music world, and I think the album is an excellent step towards that goal. B
Tracks to Download: “Daybreak,” “Dial Tones,” “Heard It On The Radio,” & “Madness.”
Lady Like: The Boss Type by Lady London
Over the past few years, New Jersey-born turned Los Angeles transplant Lady London has grown a massive social media audience with her superb tracks. She received several high-profile endorsements from Cardi B, Diddy, Hot 97, and Sway’s Universe. Now, Lady London dropped her “Boss Tape.” Lady Like: The Boss Tape is filled with outstanding freestyles that make hip-hop fans’ jaws drop! As I listened to Lady Like: The Boss Type, it reminded me of the first time I saw (in person) Cardi B made her debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2017. Like the “Bodak Yellow” rapper, I believe that Lady London has a massive career ahead of her. A-
Tracks to Download: “Long Live Shamello,” “Buss It, Ski,” “Welcome to the Party,” “Reciprocity,” & “Girl Like Me.”
“I’m On It” by YAQI
YAQI rounds out this edition of Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews. The actress and model delivered a fiery track that will take millennial listeners back to the late 1990s and early 2000s. “I’m on It” contains a hook-infused chorus and an addicting production value. I love that she dedicated the video to her fellow Asian female creatives, and I hope she inspires a new generation of performers to chase their dreams. A-
