Artists to Watch:
Jake’s Take’s Artists to Watch is back! Here are some of the recording artists that are already or in the process of taking the music industry by storm.
Bettie James Gold Edition by Jimmie Allen
The first time I ever saw Jimmie Allen perform when I watched him blew the roof off the Kennedy Center during Garth Brooks’ tribute. But after hearing him on The Bobby Bones Show, I needed to check out his work. The country music breakout released Bettie James Gold Edition. This album features an array of music superstars that range from country music heavy hitters such as Keith Urban, Little Big Town, and the late Charley Pride to fellow up-and-comers such as LANCO, LOCASH, and Mickey Guyton. He also recruited Babyface, Monica, Nelly, and Pitbull. Usually, when you have this many superstar guests on an album, the audience would get bored and considered a “hot mess.” However, it is excellent to hear Jimmie Allen’s versatility as a musician and songwriter throughout this album. I hope Bettie James Gold Edition has a role when it comes time for the 2021-22 award season because a significant amount of these tracks are award-winning worthy. A+
Tracks to Download: “Flavor,” “Pray,” “Tequila Talkin’,” “Forever,” “Why Things Happen,” & “Made for These.”
“Great Escape” by Amiena
It has been a while since we heard new music from international recording artist Amiena. She dropped her latest single off her highly-anticipated debut album: Flares & Halos. Longtime music fans might notice that this song could be the love child of Madonna’s “Frozen” and Tina Turner’s “Goldeneye.” It’s a fantastic track, and I am looking forward to hearing Flare & Halos. “Our People” by Emma-Jean Thackray
UK-based composer, producer, and singer Emma-Jean Thackray released a new single off her upcoming jazz album: Yellow. I was truly amazed by the musical arrangements and the lyrics behind the song. “Our People” has the combination of 1970s jazz fusion and blue-eyed soul together. I am looking forward to seeing what Emma-Jean does next. A-
“ELECTRICITY” by Evann McIntosh
When I first heard 16-year-old Evann McIntosh sing “Electricity,” I was immediately taken back to the first time I heard Justin Bieber, Charlie Puth, and AJ Mitchell sing. My fellow Kansan shares the same charisma that all three of them had at his age. I feel like “Electricity” could be the song that takes him to the music industry’s stratosphere. A-
“Little Drop of Medicine” by Trapper Schoepp
Americana recording artist Trapper Schoepp rounds out this edition of Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews. He released a new single, “Little Drop of Medicine,” that features a haunting melody of soft piano playing and rocky guitar riffs. In addition, music fans would love the swagger in his voice. I am looking forward to hearing new music from Trapper in the future. B
