It is one of my favorite times of the year!
The 2013 New York Comic Con (NYCC) will take place this weekend at the Javits Center in New York City.
Now, unfortunately, I will be taking a hiatus from this year…. but that does not mean that I will not give some helpful hints on how to survive one of the biggest pop culture parties of the year!
Here are some tips on how to enjoy the 2013 New York Comic Con:
Make a Game Plan
Having a game plan is very important! If you do not come with a game plan on which creators or media guests to see, panels to attend or companies to visit…then the Javits Center will engulf you and you will be run over by the thousands of pop culture aficionados. If you go to the NYCC website, you will be able to make an agenda that will help you conquer Comic Con!
Prepare for lines!
There are thousands of people that will be attending this year’s event! So…be prepared to wait to meet your favorite artist or media guest, in line for the restroom and to grab comics for your favorite creators to sign. The best way to make your time in line go quicker is to talk to fellow your attendees. Who knows? You might make several acquaintances that could be come friends.
Head to Artist’s Alley
Probably the most under-utilized feature of the New York Comic Con is Artist Alley! If you are exhausted in waiting in line at both the mainstream and Indie company’ booths, head to Artist’s Alley because you will have the chance for a more personal visit with your favorite creator. Also, please check out each of the creator’s schedules because depending on how active they are with the Con, will limit the times at their booths.
Interact with the Cosplayers
You will find hundreds of attendees dressed up as their favorite characters! If you come across some cosplayers…INTERACT WITH THEM! They DON’T BITE! Every time I attended the NYCC, I had an incredible time interacting with them. I personally enjoyed posing with a couple of former Robins, the Avengers and Batman and Catwoman.
Say “Hello” to the Staff
All throughout the three (or four)-day event, there will be staff members from major organizations including DC, Marvel and Dark Horse. They are there for you…if you have any questions about their products, characters or how you can meet certain creators…they will be happy to answer your questions!
Have fun!
This is the most important rule! If you are not having fun, then why are you even there? Make some meaningful memories because you might not have a chance to attend a New York Comic Con in a while.
