Historically, New York Comic-Con (NYCC) Saturdays have been the busiest days when it comes to superstar panels. It is no different from this year. While I do not have a badge for Saturday, here are several panels that I hope that my fellow pop culture aficionados attend:
DC Year of the Villain (Room 1A06-Javtis Center; 10:30 to 11:30 AM)
Thanks to Lex Luthor and Perpetua, the DC Comics supervillains are finally getting their revenge and causing chaos throughout the planet. How can our favorite heroes survive the “Year of the Villain”? Perhaps fan-favorite creators Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Josh Williamson, Jock, James Tynion IV, Cecil Castellucci, and Cully Hammer might share some answers at this NYCC panel.
Power Rangers: Unnecessary Evil (Room 1A24-Javits Center; 11 to 12 PM)
BOOM! Comics is continuing to impress Power Rangers fans with their impeccable comic book series. However, with Lord Zedd, Lord Drakkon, and the Psycho Rangers on the prowl, the Rangers are in more danger than ever before. Both the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and Go! Go! Power Rangers creative teams (Ryan Parrott, Sina Grace, Daniele Di Niculo, and Simone Di Meo) are expected to tease the Rangers’ upcoming adventures. Also, NYCC will be graced by three Power Rangers legends as Karan Ashley (Aisha), Steve Cardenas (Rocky), and Austin St. John (Jason) are expected to drop-in on the panel.
Star Trek Universe (Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden; 1 to 2:30 PM)
Thanks to CBS All Access, the Star Trek universe is experiencing a renaissance! Starfleet cadets should teleport to the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden for a massive debrief. Up first, Sonequa Martin-Green and the cast and producers of Star Trek: Discovery will tease the upcoming third season. Next, the legendary Sir Patrick Stewart will join select members of the cast and production team of Star Trek: Picard to tease the upcoming 2020 science-fiction drama.
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee Presents Next Year’s Biggest Blockbuster: “Election 2020” (Room 1A10-Javits Center; 4:30 to 5:30 PM)
Samantha Bee is returning to NYCC! The late-night host will be teasing her show’s next chapter-covering the 2020 election. Also, she will give fans a tease of her upcoming mobile game that is also centered around the United States’ presidential election.
Marvel Comics: X-Men-Dawn of X (Main Stage 1D; 5 to 6 PM)
Under Jonathan Hickman’s watchful eye, the X-Men have entered a new status quo. Following the events out of both House of X and Powers of X, Marvel’s Merry Mutants are about to regroup with several new titles. Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, Senior Editor Jordan D. White, and writers Ed Brisson (New Mutants), Tini Howard (Excalibur), and Benjamin Percy (X-Force) to talk about the X-Men franchise’s next chapter.
Federator Studios’ CASTLEVANIA Spotlight Panel (Main Stage 1D; 6:30 to 7:30 PM)
Federator Studios has teamed up with Netflix to bring legendary horror video game Castlevania to the streaming platform. Castlevania, which is an anime adaptation, follows Trevor Belmont (voiced by Richard Armitage) as he teams up with Adrian “Alucard” Tepes (voiced by James Callis) to protect humanity from Dracula (voiced by Graham McTavish). Comic book luminary Warren Ellis created, and executive produces the series. Ellis, Callis, and McTavish are expected to headline this NYCC panel along with several other cast and crew members.
