Joshua Christensen is probably one of the personable and creative designers I have ever met.
When I briefly visited him on at the Kansas City Fashion Week (KCFW) Rooftop Party and at his booth at Thursday’s night show, I found his creations to be a breath of fresh air and extremely intriguing. While I was a little disappointed that he did not bring any male versions of his clothes, I knew that he had something big in store for Friday’s runway show.
But before the Project Runway alum took the stage, several talented designers treated the Friday night audience to multiple showcases.
St. Louis-based designer Paulie Gibson was the first designer to showcase his work. According to 41 Action News and 38 the Spot’s Crystle Lampitt (who served as the evening’s emcee), Mr. Gibson’s ensembles focused on the white and yellow portion of the color wheel and a lot of my fellow fashion bloggers thought that the designs were influenced by the Far East. Paulie was also the very first designer to have a collection modeled by all guys. After seeing some of his outfits, I would be interested in wearing something from his collection.
If you polled a couple of attendees from last night’s show, they might be unanimous in naming Molly Elizabeth—one of the best designers of the night. At 16-years-old, this Omaha-based fashion prodigy continues to prove why she will play an important part in shaping the fashion industry’s future. While her designs were gear towards the black, white and grey color lovers, the audience was impressed that Molly’s collection brought sugar, spice and attitude to the runway. She received the loudest applause of the night from the Kansas City Fashion Week attendees.
Chesterfield, Mo.’s OLA Style brought lots of sass as her risky style combinations (such as tie-dye and geisha) intrigued audiences, while Omaha designer Afielda modernized Ancient Egypt and brought it to the KCFW runway. Also, Davi inspired the audience with her mission to give all proceeds from her collection to Hope House, while FabriKatt Designs’ collection boldly stated: “Tangerine is the New Black.”
JennaSea became the first designer to be showcase twice during a KCFW proceeding. She previously showcased her work on Wednesday night’s Runway on the Rooftop and became an instant crowd favorite for embracing women of all sizes. In fact, all of her models were bombshells as they proved that swimwear could be a crowd pleaser during Fashion Week.
Joshua Christensen closed last night with a bang! It started out with the shock factor as barely clothed male models first entered the runway and throughout the set, he proved that both men and women could wear his irresistible designs! He was a great closer for the Friday night showcase.
